Shouldn't USS Puritan have stronger deck armor since monitors are more likely to be hit by plunging fire than other types of ships?

An ocean-going monitor that stays away for forts on bluffs won't be in much danger from plunging fire at this period.  But I see I forgot to get rid of the weight for masts and sails, so there might be something that can be done.

And it has: design of USS Puritan updated.

As originally designed, USS Dunderberg was both: she had twin turrets at either end, with a casemate in the middle.  As she progressed through design and construction, the turrets were dropped.  The above designs are based on the original design, with turrets on the ends.

USS Roanoke was an (unsuccesful) US Civil War ironclad converted from a frigate, she was fitted with 3  Ericsson turrets.
