KWorld

An area for posting ships that are not military in nature, such as freighters, colliers, liners, etc.  Given the conditions, most vessels are lightly armed to deal with the threat of local wildlife, but they are not intended as vessels of war.

The Lighter Carrier is a somewhat specialized vessel, which carries 4 35m cargo lighters on large cranes on either side of the hull.  When cruising, the lighters are stored on the main deck, and they are swung out and lowered into the water when needed.  The large cranes used to raise and lower the lighters are also used to swing loads up from the holds and down into lighters alongside the ship (the above-water miscellaneous weight is nothing but cranes) and the reverse.

And the lighter to go with the above.  In addition to it's primary uses, such vessels could be used in ports to carry cargo to and from ships that have not yet docked.
