Right now, it is looking like 2 Continents will be enough to fit everyone.
That would mean that you play the RED cities.

So there's 5 of us on Island 2, and only 2 on Island 1?  So far, that is.  I suspect that means everyone else (until another island's opened up) will have to be on Island 1, since there's not much coastal room left on Island 2 that reaches the open ocean.

Yep- that was the way it worked out. We should be able to fit 2-3 more on Continent #1.
I was going to wait till everyone took a place to pick mine... but I wound up with so much open room that I just took one of the more restrictive locations and went with it. If I don't expand overseas, I really don't have anywhere else to go!

Heh, of course you do: there's plenty of coastline east of you, both north and south, on your own continent.  Especially if no one fills in the "neck" that's north of you and Nobody, that gives you room to expand without going out onto the high seas at all.

You mean the bluish-white ones way to the top of the map?  I assumed those were glaciers and such....

KWorld would be correct, those are the polar icecaps. The should extend farther up, but the CIV IV map cuts them off there
