Yes, unfortunately, this is the case for main gun turrets; so if the weapons on your vessel are of a uniform caliber, only six can fire into a broadside. This was an unfortunate necessity to provide some kind of 'dreadnought division' showing where old-fashioned designs ended and 'modern' ones began.
So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;

What is considered to be a "main gun" turret, is it just the largest? I am interested in having a few semi-dreadnoughts.

Primary caliber.
If your ship has a 7.5" gun and a 6" gun, then the 7.5" is the main gun.

QuoteDid any other ships other than the Edgar Quinet class have six (or more) funnels or are they record holders?
Yes, the Ernest Renan (which I used) also has 6 funnels.

QuoteSeems like the limit for turreted guns firing into a broadside is 6.
True, the rules say...
QuoteUntil 1910, there can be no cruiser or larger ship that can fire more than 6 turret mounted guns into a broadside.
... but after that rule was established, it was said that Satsuma could be build (firing 10 turreted guns into a broadside) so I assumed it applied per gun caliber and something like the Renan would be legal . So the legality of Satsuma is based on the fact that it has four 12" turreted guns firing into a broadside and six (the max allowed) 10" turreted guns. The OTL Renan fired four 7.6" turreted guns into a broadside and four 6.4" turreted guns (the other two 6.4" guns on the side are in casemates) so that would be legal as well (but it would not have been legal if those 6.4: guns were twin turrets). For my design, I changed it into 8" and 6". I thought 1 second about it, but the Edgar Quinet is not legal as it can fire seven 7.6" turrreted guns into a broadside (2x2 and 3x1).

Since it was indicated that Satsuma, a semi-dreadnought, could be built, I think you can have your semi-dreads. I myself put the Danton clone in my list of ships. :)

I meant the Edgar Quinets and the Ernest Renans. I actually thought the image was a good photoshop until I read the link, as it looks almost surrealist with so many funnels. They certainly have a style all their own.

     8 x Single mounts on sides, evenly spread
4 guns in 8 mounts? Not that springsharp cares, but still...

Walter

The historical SMS Albatross had 8x 3.4" guns, so I started out with 8 guns and then changed it into 4x1 4" and 4x1 3" for it to fit into the Gunboat category without changing the main gun mounts from 8 to 4. While springsharp does not care, I do as it frees up a tiny amount of hull strength. :)
