Guns for the start are going to be limited to 305mm, that limit was accidently deleted from the posted rules (unless Carth has changed his mind on this). Designs really need to be in SS3 as the caliber specifications can make-or-break some of these designs.

Foxy... the hard cap on battleship guns is 12" for everyone. We had to set some kind of limit, and as this was the de facto standard for pre-dreads, thats where we set it. I think that is mentioned in this thread somewhere, and if I neglected to  put it in the design rules thread, then I will remedy that when I get home. If you want to start designing ships, go to the Springsharp site and dl SS3. You can't 'practice' in SS2 because they are too different... it is SS3 or nuthin.

From the Treaty/Rules Document:
QuoteSection 4.01   Battleships
   A Battleship shall, for the purposes of this treaty, heretofore be classified by the following qualifications. Any ship meeting one of these qualifications shall be termed a Battleship and shall count against tonnage allocated for Battleships, even if it does not meet all the qualifications.
(a)   a vessel with four or more guns of no greater than 12"/305mm.
So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;
We gives you your certificate, an' if you want it signed
We'll come an' 'ave a romp with you whenever you're inclined.

A light BB, chose A-Q-X really because A-Q-X is 6 main guns and having a decent sized immediately battery in winged turrets for A-X main battery requires too much weight (18 kton).

Edit: Forgot to add light secondary (it would have been an all-big-gun ship otherwise). +200 tons on normal load.

Light cruisers- we'll have to discuss that.
Most did have VTE, but some had turbines.
Perhaps light cruisers and below after 1900... no earlier.
Also, Foxy, the layout is distinctly dreadnought; there aren't to be any superfiring main turrets- and the superfiring secondaries are assumed to be a very limiting addition, similar to those on Virginia class BBs and that battleship class that starts with a K.

Ok, Foxy...

You have several warnings that might be displaying.
Check the 'Beam Between Bulkheads' setting on the Armor tab.... that one sneaks in a lot.

Second- no ship till WWII had that kind of torpedo armament.
PLEASE, don't tempt fate right out of the starting gate.

Only real problems I have with the design:
1.) Unrealistic amount of torpedoes; no large ship had torp armament like that till the Japanese torpedo cruisers.
2.) Large mags for the 10" guns and very small ones for the 5" guns; drop some main gun shells for some more secondary gun ammo.
3.) The belts aren't tall enough- water/wave interaction might be an issue... I'm no engineer, but it might be something you need to check.

#57
A design for an early 2nd class Torpedo Boat- she has appreciable guns armament for her size, a powerful load of torpedoes (2 either beam, one over the stern) and a very good turn of speed for the day. The 30 knot trial speed would probably be restricted to days with less than 3 foot seas, but with a relative Seakeeping of 0.89, they are still good seaboats for such a small craft.

They would be designed for the coastal areas in the between Continent #1 and Continent #2, and the 'bight' between the lower and upper part of Continent #1 (where I'm planning to settle if possible).

@Carthaginian
With that amount of guns, isn't it more like a destroyer than a torpedo boat?

QUESTION:
With a small patrol boat like this you're likely to have some reserves, what would you do with that?
  • a) build them to excessive hull strength
  • b) use 'paper' armor (which I did)
  • c) declare them as misc weight
  • d) something else?
