Does those 15cm guns really fit? It seems like an awfully tight fit to get in the casemates and the superstructure to fit them in just about 15m.

Also, why bother with and ends belt that thin?

The ship in question is based off of the Ironclad Petr Veliky which near a I can tell, had fully armored sides. In addition, this ship is to be the first step away from coastal and riverian monitors into more seagoing warships. All of my monitors have fully armored sides above the waterline, and while this design does not share that trate, it is a first move away from that and needs in my mind to be reflected in the layout of its armor.

As far as the 6"/15.2cm guns go, the historical design had 3.46"/8.8cm guns in the same layout, so I could drop my version's guns to 4".

Any comments on the Admiral Kherovs?

The ship in question is based off of the Ironclad Petr Veliky which near a I can tell, had fully armored sides.

As far as the 6"/15.2cm guns go, the historical design had 3.46"/8.8cm guns in the same layout, so I could drop my version's guns to 4".

That  ship did not have the guns in casemates, but raised on the bridge wings.
QuoteAny comments on the Admiral Kherovs?
Lets see:
QuoteAdmiral Kherov, Respublika Novaya Rossiya Heavy Monitor laid down 1865
My immediate impression is that her guns are too small for her size, a 23cm cannon is quite low on power for the period. So I would recommend reducing the number of turrets to mount much larger guns to start with, reducing her length to make her handier and a smaller target would be wise as well.
But looking at her at bit more I bust admit being a bit uncertain as to her purpose, her length and draught makes her unsuited for costal operations. At the same time she does not have a hull form or freeboard suited for fighting on open water either.

Unrelated: Saw your suggestion for names of the new Russian cities, and I find them a bit odd. Almost all Russian cities founded during the Imperial era was named after the Emperor/Empress founding the city (such as Yekaterinburg and Petersburg), so considered using that naming convention instead?

With the guns already behind the upper belt there is no need to add more armour to them, it is a bit cake on cake, this applies to both of the later designs.

Considered perhaps reducing the number of main guns to 4, but increase their size for more punch?

Well...

On the Ushankofs: I may have not goten the layout exactly right, will make those changes and see what happens.

On the Kherovs: They are almost carbon copies of a historic ship. The draft is fine AFAIK for the areas in which I anticipate them being used. As they are the primary capital ships for the New Russian Navy until about 1873-75, I dont see then being confined to river service anytime soon.

On the Faith and Freedom: When I mentally picture a broadside mount, I imagine there being quite a large square opening in the side of the ship, armored or not. The armor that is on the mounts is soposed to cover those openings and the guns when they are not being used. Also, the ships these are based on only mounted 6x8", so the 9" is an upgrade. Also, I want to use the 9" for commonality with the monitors, and as a constistant caliber for more of my Frigate-type ships.

On city names: Something tells me that the names could have been changed after the changeover from the czars. Anyway, they are set.
