The USSN Savanaha below is an example of the Tech I expect the USS to have available to build ships in 1880.   She is built like a Brick Out House.....  and part of that is intentional.  She is not by any means revolutionary or visionary.  The ships proceeding this class will be some Cruisers and Other Ships of the line most likely with sails and steam power.   Broad Side Armament and Muzzle loading weapons will be standard on those ships from the 1860 thru 1875, from 1875 onwards a few breach loading weapons will be tested leading to this the First all Breaching loading Open Barbette Battle Ship in the USSN.
