It's like Ike. :P

Remember, the best way to light a signal tree is with 10 gallons of gasoline and a flaming stick to hurl (personal expieriance).

I guess it counts as an unpleasant vacation.

Hurricanes are only unpleasant vacations if they involve having to show up to work anyway afterwards.
Otherwise, they are a wonderful reminder of what the world was like when things were peaceful and there was no such thing as cell phones and reality TV.
So 'ere's to you, Fuzzy-Wuzzy, at your 'ome in old Baghdad;
You're a pore benighted 'eathen but a first-class fightin' man;
We gives you your certificate, an' if you want it signed
We'll come an' 'ave a romp with you whenever you're inclined.

wait no interwebs, no TV, no Video Games... am I like the only one with an Emergency Generator on the Nverse?

My idea of an emergancy generator during a hurricane is gasoline and a tree....

It's heat, anyways.

I have candles and a gas portable stove with plenty of gas, food, and batteries. If I had a laptop, I would just fully charge it and I would be good to go (wireless is reportedly to stay ok).

If all else fails, I can just sleep for 14+ hours. I'm not new to the sleep-for-very-long game.

Well... let's see... ya got dirt, and some wind, and a little sunshine.
Not a lot for Mother Nature to work with.

Flash floods and the occasional infestation of extremist wackjobs?

In Mobile, flash floods are not disasters...
During winter, flash floods are scheduled for alternate Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays, and possible every third Friday; during summer, they are simply regarded as "possible on days that end in 'Y'" and it is left at that.
A major downtown thoroughfare is jokingly known as 'Lake Conception Street.'
The single most important north-south street is actually named "Water Street."

As for 'extremist wackjobs' I cannot comment- those are everywhere and uncontrollable.
The only cure for preventing that kind of thing is to arm everyone so that no one appears an easy mark.

No power outage in my neighborhood although there's outages everywhere. As for flash flooding - as the piers are built up ~10 ft or higher - flash flooding's never a real concern. It's only with high tide and storm surge combine that we worry and that barely topped Battery Park's floor.

Just so you know; we've gone on power rationing here to save on water. *joy*

Back in one piece. Quite a difference. A few weeks back, I was suffering in the Arizona heat with lots ofsun and +40 degrees Celcius and last week I was walking around in the snow and around 0 degrees Celcius near the Colombia Icefield.  :o

On Saturday, I will be going home and then it is time to get the Wei train rolling. :)

Will be going back to Holland in a few minutes, arrive home on Sunday and go back to work on Monday. *groan*
... at least I have the Thursday and Friday off. :)
