As in made to engage enemy torpedo boats. My way of designating things might be a bit different. I guess my destroyers are sort of a hybrid of those roles, have the speed to hit capital units and (hopefuly) that will help there lack of gunpower if needed to engage TB's or MTB's. And besides,  a ultra-heavy (by my standards) torp loadout is sort of standard for the MK. Last batch of DD's had only 2 75mm guns and 9 21" torps.

The MK didn't have capital units to protect. So, why build ships to protect such units?

The heavy torpedo load-out was the fastest way the MK could build a fleet that was capable to destroy the NS heavy naval units and troop transports.

The MK developed ships the size of a destroyer still are torpedo boats.

Point by point

QuoteThe MK didn't have capital units to protect. So, why build ships to protect such units?
No reason. But now with capital units planed, protecting them needs to be look at. With escorts able to hit the water quicker, there is reason to debate the rolls they will fill.

QuoteThe heavy torpedo load-out was the fastest way the MK could build a fleet that was capable to destroy the NS heavy naval units and troop transports.
Agreed. However, now is a completely different strategic scenario. Time is not as large a constraint, so a fleet-in-being concept is getting some looks (in case its not obvious, Im sort of a fan)

QuoteThe MK developed ships the size of a destroyer still are torpedo boats.

(looks at the Javelin) 35.5 kts not quick (best im getting out of 1916 engines)? 8 torp tubes (arranged in 2 triple launchers amidships and 2 single tubes on the bow for head-on attacks) not a lot?

Well, it would stop some splinters...

I think that 195mm is just too big for such a role. Or is that supposed to be some larger caliber howitzer? A pair of 150mm guns might be a better use of the displacement (at least IMHO).

Also, I'm not sure FC is worth the trouble for a ship in this role. It'll be shooting it's main armament blind almost all the time. In those circumstances, it will be dependent on spotting from ashore most likely, and it's FC set will be of little use. I really don't think FC is necessary for shooting only at immobil land targets, especially from a flat-water riverine environment.

Nice little Gunboat

If the armour deck is simmed for thicker armour but just over the fwd Mag - it might make more sense - and fits with the substantial armour on the mount + hoist - otherwise yes the 7mm is very marginal - even against splinters/deflected machine gun fire

Agree - more lighter guns - with higher RoF might be more useful - maybe something like a twin 100mm Gun Mount up front for direct fire and a 150mm single howitzer astern for longer range/indirect fire

For FC - Forward Observation Party with portable radio/signalling equipment + small Marine detachment I think .....

Jefgte

I agree too,

With 2x150, you have certainly a higher ROF for the same boardside.
