Though the CSA sends no official representative, several higher-ranking members of the Church in the Confederacy- including Cardinal Thomas J. Toolen- will be traveling to Ireland for the funeral.

The city of Savannah, Georgia announces will be holding a memorial service at the Cathedral of St John the Baptist in concert with the one to be held in Ireland... though it will basically be held at midnight, hundreds are expected to attend.

Similar ceremonies, though without official municipal backing, are to be held in most every majority Irish/Catholic city in the Confederacy

Preparations are being made to house the greater that expected influx of foreign delegations. Wile they are present in the Republic, the Irish State Department will try to open line of communication with those delegations and start making arrangements to send diplomatic groups to those countries if possible.

In order to quell the rumors that have begun to surface about the increased around of naval officers sent with the resent delegations to the Confederate States of America and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the following details about the reasons are being disclosed.
1. The Irish navy is looking into buying older ships from these two nations. No details on the type or class of ships being discussed.
2. The officers will also be observing Confederate and Dutch shipyards to see if there are any ways we can improve the methods for constructing our own warships.
3. Also the officers will be observing they layout of Confederate and Dutch yards to help in the planed future expansions of the Navy yards in Dublin, Belfast and Ballycastle as well as future yards that may be constructed.
If any other foreign powers are interested in selling ships to the Republic, they are urged to contact the State department with copies of the relevant material sent to the Navy department.

In response to the news of Confederate services the government issued this statement:
The Irish government is honored by the support of those of Irish descent who live abroad. We thank you for your efforts to help us remember or fallen leader"

Shocking news today as the Irish government regretfully announced the death of Garrison Ahern, the president of the Republic of Ireland for the last 7 years.

Bavaria will send it's condolences at the passing of President Ahern. Generaloberst  Crown Prince Rupprecht of Bavaria will attend.

The DKB is in the Oceania region, not Europe.

Ireland would be more than happy to host talks to hopefully resolve the issues before the situation results in violence.

Garrison Ahern was layed to rest earlier today in Dublin in a ceremony that was both somber and hopeful. The main speech given by President Quinlan praised Ahern for his life of service to Ireland. The majority of the Army and Naval leadership was present along with many important members of the government. A larger than expected number of foreign government delegations from the Kingdom of the Netherlands, France, and several other countries were in attendance. Several foreign delegations that were not government sponsored were also in attendance, mainly prominent members of the catholic church in the Confederate States of America. A 21 gun salute was given by the Irish Army in conjunction with the guns of some Navy ships nearby. The ceremony marks the end of a national week of mourning. Garrison Ahern died of a stroke in the early hours of the morning a week ago. He leaves behind his wife, Keelin Ahern.

Rumors of a potential shipyard and port expansion in Belfast have been steadily gaining strength the last few days. Ever since the Navy's press release about the nature of the increased amount of naval officers going with the new diplomatic missions to the CSA and the Dutch, it is of no doubt that the navy is looking into expanding. Some of the rumors only call for more slipways and drydocks of the same size, some for enlargement of the current facilities, and quite a few state that a mix of both will happen, with more larger slipways and drydocks! There are less rumors about what would happen in Dublin, which currently houses the Navy's largest Drydock's and slipways. But one must assume that if expansion plans are in the works that Dublin must be at the front of them. Not much has been heard about Ballycastle, but it might be safe to assume that similar rumors are abound there as well. There are only a few ships in the navy that can not currently fit into all the drydocks. Why would the navy even be looking into constructing larger ones? As for the number, most of the time there only used for building new ships, not much for repair and the like. Why do we need more? What I would pay to be a bug on the wall of the Navy department right now.

Mick slammed his fist into the table, causing a cup of tea to go flying into the air and crash back down to earth, sending liquid across the room. "Relax a bit there Mick, there is no talk of cutting repair and restoration funding, and not much, if any, of your procurement budget ether, we just dont have the capacity to give you what you want with the resources we have. Why do we need these new ships anyway?" Fred moved his teacup out of reach of all of Mick's limbs that could send it flying. Mick inhaled deeply, then let out the air long and slow. "Because Frank, the big ones are getting on fifteen years old, there incredibly slow by today's standers for things there size." Frank could see Mick getting ready for more teacup homicide and moved his further out of Mick's reach. "Besides, I think were the only Navy in the world without oil-fired boilers, that is not helping matters. Also there are only five of them, sure they can carry more that whats being proposed, but they can only be so many places at once." Most of this was said in a level voice, which made Frank fear less for his tea. "Well, Ill see what I can do," Frank got up to leave, "But in the meantime, have your friends in the State department look into what foreigners might have to sell. rearming a vesicle with our guns takes much less then building the hull as well. That, I can say with 100% confidence, we can handle. Now if you will excuse me, I have other business to attend to." Frank and Mick shook hands and Frank walked out of the room. Mick slumped down behind his desk, once again looking at the papers Frank had left behind. Finding nothing had changed over the course of the conversation, Mick left the room to grab a rag to clean up the split tea.

There is a a kind of struggle about funding for the military and the economical developers. It seems that the brass isn't happy about their navy.

Oh, do the Irish have a navy worth the metal it used?
Yes Monsieur Grange. They have substantial mine laying capacity with 5 dedicated minelaying cruisers, over 30 submarines, and a fleet of small torpedo boats.

Oh well, not a surprise actualy. Ireland is a tiny country, with a big friend in the Leipzig compact. So, if they want a bigger, modern navy on their own, it will cost them. Or else they have to give up any pretence of independence, making them a vazal state of The Netherlands or the Baltic confederation.. Something I don't see happening, not as long the Irish men in the street have their potato's, poteen and wiskey.
But you're right ,little bird. It is interesting, and I'll convey the message to Minister Capet.
Who knows, maybe there is an Irish noblewidow that can allivate his pains of his failing attempts to get into the aristocracy of Europe.
