Well, I am not the current Orange player, but let's see...

The old Orange would help others... for a price. While immediate expansion would be tempting, I think cooler heads would prevail. Kongo would be purchased from GC, and some agreement would be reached with Italy/DKB im order to avoid fighting desperate people.
The French, Italians, Bavarians and Austrians fight each other for Mideastern real estate and will be occupying themselves. Problem is it is mostly desert, more rain and cooler weather will not transform it into cropland in five years without artificial fertilizers.

The Orange liners and Merchant will be busy with the lucky refugees, but Europe is pretty far and Orange won't take more than it can feed.

Fish and whale would become major staple in the Orange diet, the Orange shipyards would build fishing and fisheries protection vessels for a while. Conflicts will erupt over fishing areas. Food would be rationed, but the mobilization of the army will take care of food revolts and external threats, and secure overseas resources (oil in the gulf).
This is a repeat of 1901 (?) N2verse Mount Pinatubo eruption writ large, Orange at least has some experience to go refer to.
The electric power of the Kariba Dam will be used to manufacture nitrate fertilizers. Some tributaries of the Zambezi might get diverted to the South to increase water available for irrigation in the desert.
Pastures will be turned into croplands where possible,

In other news, the Dutch will be hard hit, their empire will become that of the Dutch East Indies with much reduced Dutch element. It might even fracture into island kingdoms.
East Australia would not be able to avoid a land war against the Firenji (diverting internal dissent to the heathens across the desert), and decades' neglect of the army would show. But ex-CSA divisions will help their Norman brethren.

The Russians/Ukrainians will start to go South and stop when they reach the Indian Ocean. Will become ugly pretty fast.

My questions to you are:

-Assuming normal activity and deployments, how devastated are your military, your infrastructure, your industry, and your population?
-Does your government (plus some element of your larger nation) attempt to evacuate - if so, how much do you think you can move, and where do they go?
-If you're in the southern hemisphere to start with - what do you do?

I think that the tsunamis will be small enough and not cause any serious direct damage.

I expect that as soon as it is evident, that the ice age will struck the Orange Republic as well, food export will be prohibited and stored instead. The military will be put on high alert/fully mobilized to prevent anyone getting funny ideas. As long as there is no immanent thread, parts of the army would be used to "create" new farmland.
Yards would likely be ordered to build (long-range) fishing vessels and smaller military ship for coast defense (MTBs?).

And finally, if the northern countries (currently desserts?) become more fertile, and the home areas become incapable of producing enough food the military might very well consider conquering them as a last resort.

Hmmm.
Why don't you ask me politely to resign Esc????
That would be easier than to throw some meteorite.

As noted, this is merely a thought exercise since the board is otherwise a bit quiet.

I know that it doesn't work out nicely for established European powers, but I'm just going with what the author put forward.  If somebody wants to figure out where the exact opposite impact area would be, we can consider that scenario too.

It's an interesting backdrop if you're looking to see how development might occur if the "West" was removed from prominance. However it's not as much fun if you're part of the "West".  Particularly if you're smaller than your neighbors and lacking in overseas possessions to flee to. :)
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

This would entail the largest migration of humans in history.   And even then by the end of 3 years the Entire Northern Hemesphere will be depopulated for the most part and the Southern Hemesphere will suffer over 50% Population loss due to loss of food production.

The Opposite Impact sight would be across the Pacific in the Southern Hemesphere and would probably have significantly less world wide impact with less dirt thrown into the air.  The Multipule Tsunami would be bad.  On the other hand since we in N3 have added a larger New Zeland, the New Swiss Home Islands and Maoria we may not escape quite as well as we had hopped and that shotgun effect of the last impact may very well impact directly into the PI, New Guinea, and South East Asia  :o

Now with slight nudging we can make sure to hit Phoenix NS with one asteroid  ;)

One thing no one has noticed will be the reduced ocean levels. All our infrastructure will suddenly be worthless. The Med will turn into an inland sea, and a bunch of straits will be gone, with the entire Dutch DEI Fleet stuck on dry land.

It would take hundreds of years of reduced temperatures to have any significant impact on the sea level. Frozen sea does not decrease sea level. Precipitation on land that stays frozen does as it won't return to the sea. So you'd expect only a few cm sea level sinking annually at most. And it would melt after the dust in the upper atmosphere subsides, however long that takes.

And it won't affect harbors that are built in estuaries.

I have read the Peshawar Lancers we are looking at no agriculture in the Northern Hemisphere in effect for 3 years.  There is a GIGAton range explosion in the Atlantic which sets off Tsunamis that just destroy Ireland outright and send waves crashing into the Appalachians.  Europe is hit with multiple, multi 100 megaton range explosions.

The effects on Iberia.

Puerto Rico is in effect destroyed as a Tsunami hits the northern coast and annihilates the population centers on the Island.

Portugal takes massive damage as the western coast is pounded by a Tsunami; I would assume 50% losses of industry and population.

Northern Spain takes heavy damage as the northern coast is pounded by a Tsunami but its also its mountainous so it prevents the wave from going very far in land.

Brazil's northern coast takes some damage but its not very populated and partially shielded by big islands in the Caribbean and the angle of impact will cause the wave to loose energy along the coast.

The Canarias are destroyed when the Atlantic Tsunami arrives.

In game terms Iberia is deduced to the following

PopulationBPICRevenue
Spain20.55.521.542
Portugal3.5158.5
Canarias
Puerto Rico
Brazil22.514.52040.502
Philippines8.231.75816.046
Bom Liete0.250.05
Total12.75107.098

In Military terms the Garrisons of Puerto Rico, Canarias, Portugal and Northern Spain would be lost so, two to four Corps would be destroyed.  But that would leave fourteen to sixteen Corps for Iberia.  The navy would come through just about undamaged would loose a number of Cruisers and Destoyers but the biggest fleets are in the Med and Pacific.  Iberia would loose the Naval ports in the areas hit by Tsunami's of course.

Once it was made clear what the future held Iberia would attempt to relocate as much Industry and Population (first call on troops, engineers, scientists, administrators and families of the above) to Brazil and some going to the Philippines.  90% of the population of the Philippines is on Luzon; so there is lots of room in the other Islands.  Also a crash building program to build more shipping would be put in hand.  Some movement of people into Morocco also.

I would expect that in 5 years Spain and Portugal would be largely depopulated from the effects of famine and break down of order.  Brazil and Philippines would loose people but come out more industrialized I think.  Long term I think there is an excellent chance the Philippines breaks away.

PS it could be my current mood but I would be cool with the mods just clearing "game over!"

I do say that it wasn't the idea to declare the Nverse "reset" at this moment.  Rockies premisse could be seen, and can be used to that effect.

But for now, it isn't planned.

Mass immigration to the coastal regions, and what was once Gondor in the Third Age.  Things should be fine south of the White Mountains and coastal influences would keep some of th cold away on the coastlines even in the Pacific.  Umbar will be more important for Rohan than it is now.

*Basing off the descriptions of the Long Winter were there was snow covering most of Middle Earth from the southern tip of the Sea of Rhun, to Emyn Muil, then around the Mouth of the Entwash to the White Mountains, then west just past the Gap of Rohan then moving northwest towards the Blue Mountains then north up the Blue Mountains, but not around the Gulf of Lune (snow up the River Lune, but Mithlond is clear).

Everywhere will be cold though even without snow covering the ground for a time.
