Yes only the Japanese entered the war with fully functional torpedoes both Long Lance and the Earlier 21" Models.

Germany, GB, and the US all had depth control problems, detonator problems and a Magnetic Detonator that didnt work in the real world.

Going back to the Escort Cruiser

   - it's an interesting design area - i'd also question lack of armour on the hoists and wondering why MB is almost full length of ship but not quite ..... and 8' EB - typo in this area?

if you can have triple turrets - 4x3 will increase firepower nicely

- and for the Full Monty - if upgrade the 4.7s to single 6s for  a uniform battety - i have a sim for a Heavy Escort Cruiser (30 knots) about 10.5/11 k tons - 20 x 6" - 16 per broadside - heavy defence vs attacking DDs - handle 2 at once  :D

If I want a Ship just to engage DD's in Numbers I will go with a uniform 4.7" Armament.... say 5Tx3x4.7" and then festone both sides with single 4.7" but thats not what Im looking for.

Yes upgrading all 5 turrets to triples and a bunch of single 6" has some possibilities but for the Exact same tonnage I can build the Ship who's hull form I stole accept it isnt 1938 so I shouldnt be building USN Large Light Cruisers.   Except I have a perceived need for a Cruisers that can reailistically engage 2 if not 3 or more small fast targets with gunfire.  In the case of my cruiser design 4x6" front, 6x6" Rear, and 4 x 4.7" Center so the first 3 DD in a Destroyer Flotilla are under fire at once.

The Large Light Cruisers with 12+ 6" Guns are all Dual Purpose ships built in the 1930's.  I think my design meets my goal of engaging multipule DD sized targets while still staying partially in the 1920's tech area I should be using.

Yes - I see where you're coming from and like the design overall

- when I was looking at Escort Cruisers - I didn't set out to create an early + enhanced Belfast - but it seemed to emerge as the logical conclusion - esp. as Triple 6 inch will fit fine on 8/9+ k ton hull and uniform main battery focused on surface warfare makes sense before you need large DP/AA in the 30s

- in 10 years time the amidships single 6 inchers would nicely make way for twin 4/4.5 inch DP - but that's getting ahead ....

ctwaterman

Yes... I considered the single 6" which would make beautiful 4.7" DP Twins in the future but honestly it game down to well I think I am using way way to much forethought here.

I looking at building a large heavily armed light cruiser with the capability to engage up to 3 small targets at once still be able to fight another cruiser if it needs to and have torpedoes to threaten larger ships if necessary.

I need a large hull for that which will allow constrution overruns and the ability to rebuild in the future but I am not building a USN Large light cruiser in 1920 instead of 1938.
