After a little suggestion from maddox, I wrote a rather primitive program which adds BBCode-Tags to tables copied from programs like Excel or OpenOffice Calc.

You can find it here  (currently Windows version only, but it should run in wine on Linux as well).

Oh and maddox was so nice to write a manual for it:

Open the BBCodeTableConverter.exe
Open the relevant spreadsheet/ XL file

Mark the piece of XL file to be converted by keeping the left button on the mouse engaged.
Use the keyboard combination "control c" or use the right mouse button and select copy.

go to BBCodeTableConverter.exe and click in the left "page". Use "control v" or the right mouse button and select "paste"

select the middle upper "add BBCode" and use the cursor and the left mouse button.

Use the same control c and control v to copy paste the right hand page of the BBCodeTableConverter.exe to the relevant forum page.

As always, suggestions for improvements are welcome.

I just tested it as well in my New Naval Bases, Slips and Dry Docks section....

As long as you dont grab too large a section and mine is about the maximum number of Columns it can support but it does work very neatly.

True although that should not be a limitation of my tool (you should be able to put nearly 2GB of into it) but more like a screen size limit. If you have too many or too broad columns it might look distorted.

ctwaterman

Yea Its a limit of the screen size on the Boards.   I have some note columns to the right of the stuff I posted on my new Naval Infrastructure section basically which dry docks are built to mass produce
  • MAS boats and stuff like that.

They didnt show up very well in my first attempt but the 2nd run worked perfectly.

I recieved an "upgraded version",  and the extra functions can make it more viewable.

I'll do some more testing, and after that, I'll exchange the file in the link for the new version.

Who did download it?

Hm... maddox did either not replace the file yet or Jefgte decided not to use any of the new functions in his example.

ctwaterman

I didnt see any new functions when I ran it last night for my HY Report... it worked pretty well then but even more functions well any more functions would be really cool.

I just test the table "add BBCode" with the 1919H1 aircrafts report.

It might be a good idea not put your entire report into it at the same time. Alternatively you could add a few [/table][table]tags, e.g. after the two lines forming the "head" and below the "Totals:   54.23034   11.5   ..." line.

It seems that way maddox.
One will however have to rename the contained file to "*.exe" in oder to use/execute it.

So what's new?
  • it should now fit onto a netbook-display - someone who can test that?
  • you can choose to the highlight the first and/or the last line and/or the first column in italics and/or bold
  • you can choose to add tabs at the end of each cell, to increase the distance between columns
  • you can choose to add tabs between the BBCode-tags of each cell, which can improve further editing

Nobody

I have a question for all users:

Would it help to be able to change the column-separator from the default TAB? It would have to remain a single character for now though.
