Republican Railways

As of the start of the year 1919, the Republic contains 15,050 kilometers of standard gauge railroads. The Republic holds control over these railways during wartime but they are operated by the private sector during peacetime. The government provides heavy subsidies to the private companies to encourage and aid the development of further railroads.

As of the end of the year 1919, the total length of the network has been increased by 5500 kilometers.

The locomotives are all steam-powered save for the infamous MTR (Mass Transit Railway) of Hong Kong which run underground and sometimes elevated above ground above the bubbling city. The subway, oddly enough, runs using electricity rather than steam-power.
