Not that I'm encouraging a land grab, but if you have claimed a sector in Antarctica, please indicate what portion (thanks to Tex for the map link).  This will be easier if we keep the claims compiled in a single thread as well as in respective news threads.

I stole that link from Desertfox.  ;D

I have an expanded Norwegian claim, down to the South Pole and to 55 degrees south.

The Iberian government does not recognize any claims for Antarctica.

Logi

The Reformist Republic of China doesn't recognize any claim made on Antarctica.

Rohan refuses to recognise any claims on the Antarctic Continent at this time but reserves the right to claim a portion or its entierity at a future date.

In short, yes there is some stuff there...  But it won't be mined in our life times if ever.

Bavaria is vaguely aware there is supposed to be a giant block of ice down there, and can't fathom why anyone would stake a claim, but figures classical rules of discovery apply. First to find, then first to permanently settle, in reasonable swaths.

Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

Valles

Given that my start-of-game plans to actually try and do something with the place were overruled by GM fiat, I don't see any reason to bother getting involved now. The Maori make no claims to Antarctica, as they don't to any other place that doesn't have a significant historical or cultural connection to them.

DKB claims Neue Schwabia as ours. Get out. Go away. Nothing to see here.

We will remind you that Neue Schwabia is VERY far from CSA, but not so far from Neue Brandenburg.
You have to get there first.

Considering that the Japanese flag flies at the South Pole, Japanese structures (a few simple huts) are on Antarctic soil and Japanese citizens are present and working (read: "drinking cold sake") on Antarctic soil, it is clear that Shirase jima belongs to the Greater Japanese Empire, regardless of all other claims. :)

What good will that do?
Still, if you can give me the final episode of Storm Chasers Season 3 right now (cause I can't wait until Monday), I might consider it...
