The British not supprising first used a single engined Sea Plane to launch Torpedo Attacks on Ottoman Merchant Ships in the aegean sea in 1916 of all years.  The plane they used is not supprisingly the aircraft at least 3 or 4 of us are using as our large Single Engined Scout/Bomber :)

As for you Souther Border - Their is a large concentration of Aircraft in that region about 300 of them.  But over 200 of them are 1914 Historical Aircraft being utilized by the Empire for the training of new pilots.

For 1918 aircraft the same catagories exists as for the 1916 Aircraft.

I would assume Fighter some times called fighter/scouts
Light Bomber/Reconisance
Twin Engine Bomber
LR or Heavy Bomber

These aircraft can be fitted out in several different rolls as an Example 50 of my Caproni Ca.3 Aircraft  are equiped as Sea Planes to operate from  harbors and ports and are utilized as Long Range Maritime Reconisance and Patrol Aircraft.

Rats forgot about the seaplane. Guess my Grado based seaplanes have torps also :)

I was steering away from "Twin Engine Bomber" as the way it's set up you buy a 50 multi-engine planes. It's specifying the intended use- recon (high fast), bomber (could be twin), etc.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest

The ground combat system I've used for some wars has an integrated system for large-scale air combat.  I've just never really had to use it.

Under this system, aircraft have five ratings, and come in units of 100:

-Air combat ability (Missions:  escort of friendly A/C, interception of enemy A/C, top cover of specific area and units in it),

-Ground attack ability (Missions:  ground attack - influencing land battle outcome)

-Strike ability (Missions:  anti-runway, logistical, interdiction of ground units)

-Range (short, medium, long)

-Reliability, from 1 to 6:  each unit has to roll at or under its rating, each turn, to be available.
