3 of these where bought from the ACM. They would receive in due course 2 refits. The first one replaced their 6" twin turrents with single 10" guns from the cancelled sisters of Alliance I. Later on they would receive new engines pushing their speed up to 22kts. The 6" turrents would be used in the Great Lakes Cruisers. A fourth Tuna has been purchased from the UNK.

These two ships together with the Olympias and the Atlantas formed the core of the new NSN. These ships where equiped with at that time cutting edge guns. Alaska held the William Tell Trophy for 8 years straight. Both ships fought with distinction at the 3rd Battle of Taiwan Straight. Alaska despite being last in the line managed a stellar performance pounding the newer Austrian AC Vienna into the sea with accurate gunfire, and later on helping to sink another AC. New Amsterdam wasn't so lucky facing a BB and an AC. She fought well and damaged the AC but was crippled by the combined fire and fell victim to a torpedo attack. Alaska has been turned into a training ship and the class reclassified as Coastal Battleships.
