Ahoj!
This is inspired by the IJN small cruisers.
Would serve principally in the Med - lead destroyers, scout, lay mines, etc.
Any good?
I can build eight ...

Enter ship name, Enter country Enter ship type laid down 1917 (Engine 1912)

Displacement:
   4 166 t light; 4 336 t standard; 4 820 t normal; 5 208 t full load

Dimensions: Length overall / water x beam x draught
   520,00 ft / 520,00 ft x 43,00 ft x 15,00 ft (normal load)
   158,50 m / 158,50 m x 13,11 m  x 4,57 m

Armament:
      7 - 5,30" / 135 mm guns in single mounts, 75,00lbs / 34,02kg shells, 1917 Model
Breech loading guns in deck mounts with hoists
on side ends, majority forward, 2 raised mounts - superfiring

Actual layout:
Anton - deck, fore
Berta - fore, superfiring over Anton
Caesar - fore, starboard of bridge, deck
Dora - aft, superfiring over Emil
Emil - aft, deck
Felix - fore, port of bridge, deck

      4 - 1,25" / 31,8 mm guns in single mounts, 1,00lbs / 0,45kg shells, 1917 Model
Breech loading guns in deck mounts
on side, all amidships, all raised mounts - superfiring
Weight of broadside 529 lbs / 240 kg
Shells per gun, main battery: 250
   8 - 20,0" / 508 mm above water torpedoes

Armour:
   - Belts:      Width (max)   Length (avg)      Height (avg)
   Main:   1,50" / 38 mm   405,00 ft / 123,44 m   8,00 ft / 2,44 m
   Ends:   Unarmoured
   Upper:   1,50" / 38 mm   405,00 ft / 123,44 m   4,00 ft / 1,22 m
Main Belt covers 120% of normal length

The way I see it - the MB is 4' below the WL, and 4' above; the UB is an extension, thus 8' above the WL is lightly armoured

   - Gun armour:   Face (max)   Other gunhouse (avg)   Barbette/hoist (max)
   Main:   1,00" / 25 mm         -         0,50" / 13 mm

   - Armour deck: 1,00" / 25 mm, Conning tower: 1,00" / 25 mm

Machinery:
Coal and oil fired boilers, steam turbines,
   Direct drive, 3 shafts, 37 343 shp / 27 858 Kw = 29,00 kts
   Range 4 000nm at 14,00 kts
Bunker at max displacement = 872 tons (33% coal)

Complement:
   289 - 376

Cost:
   £0,756 million / $3,024 million

      - Conning Tower: 6 tons, 0,1%
   Machinery: 1 535 tons, 31,8%
   Hull, fittings & equipment: 1 769 tons, 36,7%
   Fuel, ammunition & stores: 655 tons, 13,6%
   Miscellaneous weights: 200 tons, 4,1%

100 - FC 1912
24 - torpedos
10 - tonnes - spare small w/t
40 tonnes - mines

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
     4 160 lbs / 1 887 Kg = 55,9 x 5,3 " / 135 mm shells or 0,8 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1,20
   Metacentric height 2,0 ft / 0,6 m
   Roll period: 12,9 seconds
   Steadiness   - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 70 %
         - Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0,36
   Seaboat quality  (Average = 1.00): 1,20

Hull form characteristics:
   Hull has a flush deck
   Block coefficient: 0,503
   Length to Beam Ratio: 12,09 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 22,80 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 51 %
   Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 58
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 0,00 degrees
   Stern overhang: 0,00 ft / 0,00 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
      - Stem:      22,50 ft / 6,86 m
      - Forecastle (20%):   14,00 ft / 4,27 m
      - Mid (30%):      14,00 ft / 4,27 m
      - Quarterdeck (15%):   14,00 ft / 4,27 m
      - Stern:      14,00 ft / 4,27 m
      - Average freeboard:   14,68 ft / 4,47 m
Ship tends to be wet forward

Ship space, strength and comments:
Space   - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 119,1%
      - Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 107,0%
Waterplane Area: 14 939 Square feet or 1 388 Square metres
Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 110%
Structure weight / hull surface area: 72 lbs/sq ft or 351 Kg/sq metre

      - Longitudinal: 0,99
      - Overall: 1,00
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is cramped
Room for accommodation and workspaces is adequate
Ship has slow, easy roll, a good, steady gun platform
Good seaboat, rides out heavy weather easily

Bambi must DIE!

cute and very handy  :)  - but L:B ratio is 12:1 - seems excessive

Also - aren't wing turrets getting a bit dated by 1917

Do you have twin mount - to give option of 2/3 single Turrets superfiring over 2 Twins - that would seem more in keeping with the period

- and help shorten that long MB ?

Borys

Ahoj!
1 - It is possible that I got carried away with cutting down the beam at some point ... :)

2 - Habsburgs are old fashioned, and look at the Sendai class layout:
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/japan/sendai-cl-schem.htm

Hmm, I will try to recreat the original layout ...

3 - now, I do not have twin mounts - not yet "invented" by the KKK.

4 - the long MB is more or less a given on a long, narrow, fast ship ...
