Well, I'm not as good at simming cruisers as I would like and I happen to be in need of some. So seeing so many design "contests", I thought it would be nice to put this up as one too.

What I want is a cruiser capable of whacking other cruisers (not BCs) and are effective at TB-killing. As I don't have much BP, the smaller, the better.

Requirements Are:

-Six to eight 250 mm turret guns (You can use 195mm guns but they would have to be deck mounts)

-Secondary battery of 140mm or 120mm; AA battery of 75mm guns is optional

-Minimum armor is 3" belt, and 1" deck

-Top speed of at least 27 kts (1912 engines, oil-firing is ok)

-Operating range of at least 8,000 nm @ 12 kts

-Minimum 320 t of miscellaneous weight for FC, Radar, Wireless, etc.

-At least 4 21" Torpedo Tubes (I can only do in twins)

What can you do with this?

TexanCowboy

Oil because of me, I suppose. :)

TexanCowboy

Tell me if there is anything wrong with it.

It looks good, but there's a few things I have against it.

I realize the size is hard to slim down so I'll leave that.
Its 21" torpedoes, not 20" ;)
As much as I wish I had it, I do not have AON tech. (Maybe I could assimilate it by the time I build this.)
And 500 t Misc Weight is a bit much. We need 300 t basic, and some more for construction reserve and torpedoes. +200 t weight is a bit overdoing it.

ctwaterman

If your going to use 9" or larger guns your going to need Captial Ship Fire Control to really make proper use of them.   The problem I see so far is you want a Cruiser Killer that also has a huge number of secondary guns to engage TB and DD with.

To get this request in at a light weight isnt going to be easy as an example look at the Italian AC-1913 they are 13K Tons effectively Mini Battle Cruisers with 10" Guns.

I know:

250t Fire Control
25t Radar
25t Long Wireless
+??t

That's at least 300 T. My point was that 500 tons could probably be spent on better things. I know its difficult to get the ship in at a light weight so I'm just asking that you guys try to 'keep' the weight down. I don't mind that the ship will be larger than 10k tons, just don't get carried away.

And yes, you have the mission down quite correctly.

It looks excellent, liked that you made it fit to a type 2 dock. My only problem is this little snippet.

QuoteNo fuel, Internal combustion motors,
No drive to shaft

What's that supposed to mean? I checked it and that's everything on the engines unchecked.

Bugger....I had 1916 engines at first, then remember the 1912 requirement and changed the engine year. It must have unchecked the fuel and type when I switched it. I'll see if I can redo it...since I didn't save the report.

Hmm... Looks good.

Just a point:
I think 2" deck with a 4" belt is a big high on the deck side. Maybe you could lower the deck to ~1.5" and increase the belt thickness.

Took a stab at this. She's fairly big and _not_ cheap! No laydown date was given so I went with 1918. Main Battery in a A/Q/Y layout. Had to drop speed in order to get seakeeping up to 1.00, otherwise she meets or exceeds specifications...
