Deck Armor :
50mm upperdeck
100mm lower deck

The Rock Doctor

I assume the armored deck thickness is a mistake?

One day when I get bored, I'll have to design "Darien-Max" capital ships for giggles.

Walter

That thing's got more deck armour than my Kamatari (Yamato) design over at wesworld! :o
17.5% vs 26.2%. 15184 tons vs 17351 tons. 9" vs 11.81".

300mm is wasting hull strength.

miketr

If nothing else 2,000 AP bombs will just bounce off the armor deck.

maddox

Worst damage after a tallboy bombardment.
Chipped paint on the deck.

But all the turrets blown appart, due the "thin" armor on top and the back.

Kaiser Kirk

Interesting.
She's a beast, but not invulnerable and weakly armed for the size.

From the notes at the bottom I expect that there is a 50mm deck capping the 150mm upper belt, and a 150mm deck capping the main belt, followed by a 100mm deck "catching" any partial penetrations and spalling.  I believe the Littorio had a similar, though thinner, design.

However the upper and lower decks could be halved and still perform their jobs, while the vertical armor elements could use reinforcement.

In my opinion, tertiary guns should be raised, all 150mm and 100mm should have splinter armor.
10.5m in draft is also a problem for many areas, limiting ports and canals usuable.
Did they beat the drum slowly,
Did they play the fife lowly,
Did they sound the death march, as they lowered you down,
Did the band play the last post and chorus,
Did the pipes play the flowers of the forest
