TexanCowboy can refine the requirements for us, but I think a design competition for Romania's order might be fun.

So here are the parameters as I understand them:

Romania is interested in commissioning a new flagship for Black Sea operations. They'd prefer a medium-heavy caliber gun, something like the CSA's 9.2" 45 and 50 caliber series (which fires a 380 pound round). Speed need only be adequate. Armor protection should presumably be something more than adequate. Range isn't a primary criteria, as long range isn't needed for Black Sea service. Ditto sea keeping.

Also I imagine that as part of the deal Romania might want to license and adopt the major caliber chose for future ships or shore defense.

So anyone want to solicit the Romanians for their business? I'll have something later or tomorrow, personally.

TexanCowboy

I'm the Romanian goverment and I approve this message.

TexanCowboy

If the ship is payable for over muiltiple halfs the ships have no limit, otherwise, please keep it under 4-5,000 tons.

Something bigger, but still rather small:

Note that the CSA has abandoned it's usual AoN protection scheme for this ship. The fully armored sides are meant to give good protection to the casemates.

Her seakeeping is only ok, but should be plenty in the Black Sea.

Pricetag of ships not of the DD, TB or submarine class are BP= $

But foreign build ships have a disadvantage, or they get a tad more expensive in upkeep, as no part is standard, or the pricetag rises as every part is custom made to fit the standard of the buying country.

Foreign build but up to the buyers standards is 1BP=1.25 $

Upkeep gets 25% more expensive if bought to foreign specifications.

Other option is to buy one of the French Heavy cruisers of 1900.  The Montcalm class.  Pretty cheap.

The Rock Doctor

The design of the Antonio Jose de Sucre could be adapted to suit Romanian needs for a coastal monitor.  Given the draught, she may also be able to access the Danube to some degree.

http://www.navalism.org/index.php?topic=3016.msg33900#msg33900.

Like many other nations, Gran Colombia is constrained more by its BP than by its available cash.  Therefore, the cost of construction really depends on whether the 7.5 BP required for such a vessel could be made up by having Romania build some "trailing edge" ships (sloops, tenders) for GC.  If so - then construction might cost ~$11.

If not, the cash cost would be significantly higher.

Is it possible to have some guide on likely/ intended use of the Ship and type/strength of possible Opponents.

I'm not clear if Reqmt is for a Coastal style AC (multiple 7-8 inch guns, armour vs Cruisers and 'reasonable speed' or Coastal Mini BB/Monitor - few 12 inch guns, armour vs. ACs/PDs and Monitor like speed

Also - is Land Bombardment/support part of the Mission?

So far - I'd go for the 6 x 12 inch - a nice mini PD !

TexanCowboy

I'm looking more for a coastal cruiser. I'm going to try and buy some caribian properties from the Dutch and such, and I don't really have a need for bombaredment ships, since I have some very good land artillery and I working on some bombers. It's more intened as a deterrent to Russia and Ukrania and the Ottomans then for shore bombardment, since I don't have any forces near the coast.

TexanCowboy

Rock Doctor, I could probebly build 5-7 sloops or frigate or whatever for you, but I'm guessing that you would want to use your on guns on them.
