With the advent of fast and larger Armored Cruisers and Battle Cruisers the job of Fleet Scout or Scout Cruiser could no longer be carried out by existing Italia Cruisers.  With the Empire desire for float plane scout still a dream  on some drawing board an inexpensive Fast Fleet Scout was needed.  The plan was for a fast ship utilizing an all or nothing Armor Design to be able to resist the fire of other Protected Cruiser or to have enought speed to simply run from most if not all Battle Cruisers to this end speed and an above average sea keeping were primary goals.

If my math is right, and we assume that your belt is sloped at 15 degrees, it's only going to protect 3.32 meters (10.8 feet) at the waterline. IMHO, that's way too short for a 32 knot ship. I believe the unarmored side would be exposed below the waterline quite easily at speed.

ctwaterman

Someone else mentioned that as well so I expanded the belt 2 feet.  I figured a 10 Degree Incline but yes I will see how much I can stretch the belt.  What do you gifure is the need Belt size :)

From a different perspective - does the inclined belt have much impact on the available internal space within the ship?  She's not all that wide to start with.

Guinness

Someone who's actually good at math check me here, but assuming a 15 degree slope and a 15 foot belt, I get 3.88 feet extra depth (not accounting for the thickness though, so let's just say 4 feet). So a total of 8 feet lost.

Of course, if it is a sloped internal belt, some of the fuel could go outside it too... Still I think we can expect the machinery spaces to be a little bit extra cramped.

The Rock Doctor

Ah, for the days when I remembered trigonometry...

ctwaterman

agggh..... the Trigonometry Monster.... run run for the hills up the trees :'(

Ok so maybe we will skip the Slopped Belt armor stick with the All or nothing concept and maybe hope I can pilfer the next generation of armor from say France before the 2nd run of these ships is completed ??? ;D :o

On another note while cleaning up my Naval Guns link horror of horrors It appears I never developed a twin 6" or 152mm Gun.  So I may very well be using a French or CSA 5.5" gun anyway for the first run on these ship  :-[
