QuoteIRL, Belgium didn't even try to tame the river, nor bypass the cataracts with canals and locks, but used railways instead.
Just shows you how smart the Belgians are. Proud to be your neighbour to the north. :)

Thinking of it, even if you have to cut your way through rock and jungle, it is probably a lot cheaper and easier than building canals and locks.

A canal is not always the best sollution.

Surely the Nverse Columbians are a lot smarter than the Nverse French!

Why getting angry, and chase the offending fellow, just another sip of the chilled champagne will do to express our displeasure.

I think that the numbers for the amount of earth that needs to be shifted is optimistic. The river follows the easiest path, which means that the moment  canal no loner follows it there will be a need to either go up or down cliffs or to cut trough mountains. But I guess tunnels would be an option as well... :)

Something to remember, with seaports on the east side of the province there is less need for the river for transport, at least for minerals.

Just to trow some numbers out, the Kra and Nicaraguan Canals in game terms cost about $800.

I don't remember exacly, but that was my best estimate of OTL costs converted to N-verse terms. The costs were slight less than for the Panama Canal due to less work having to be done. There should be something on them buried in the archives.

The 800$ cost was based on my recalculation into battleships. I took the OTL price in USD, checked how many Iron Duke class  dreadnaughts it could build, and then looked at Navalism warship building costs.
