The Rock Doctor

I'm looking for some inspiration.  I'm seeking a trade-defence/colonial station ship with the following characteristics:

-Minimum range of 10,000 nm @ 10 kts; mixed or all-oil-fired
-Seakeeping > 1.00
-Capable of defeating protected cruisers and AMCs
-Capable of hurting or deterring capital ship raiders
-Minimal length (120 m or less preferred)
-Minimal draft (5.5 m or less preferred)
-Misc. weight of 350 t for FC, long-range wireless, and flag facilities.

Other attributes are for you to determine as you see fit.  Thoughts?

Korpen

Not certain what kind of size you is looking for, but here is an idea for a 4800 ton ship.
The 275mm gun should be able to deter all but the most modern capital ships. She is strongly armoured against cruiser fire, and with a large secondary battery she could be capable to engaging two cruisers and AMCs at once.

Using calibers in the GC arsenal now. The more I thought about it, the more I figured this ship might need something near PC speed. This allows more operational flexibility, etc.

The 100mm battery is to allow her Captain the option of dispatching lesser opponents and merchantmen without expending main battery shells. It could be swapped with 4x140mm with a few compromises elsewhere.

Nice description of the ship type, Guinness.  Nice speed too.  I imagine I could swap in two triple ~8" as an alternative to the 9.2" guns.

The Dutch entry's similar to ideas I played with last night, except I also tinkered with a "central battery" layout like a drawing I posted to an RRC thread somewhere.

...but there are always limitations of some kind.  In my case, harbour depth and/or drydock length are factors I want to consider.

Thanks for the submission.

Bit heavier than I would like her, but she is a nice compromise between speed, resilience and armament.
The 165mm guns won't kill bigger combatants, but armor less than 4" won't stop those at all, so mission kill is perfectly possible.
And all the other requirements are filled.
Otherwise I would say, the Demarce IV with the heavy 195mm shells.
But she's a lot bigger, and especialy faster.

true but it isnt as heavy as I would have liked it to be, against Capital ships it would still be to light, all told it isnt a bad ship though given the restrictions.  It also has the heaviest secondary bat.

So y'all are thinking along cruiser lines, it seems.  Here's a different take - slow, but armored against cruiser fire, and capable of providing quite the greeting to any approaching raider.

The secondary battery needs a little work...

Nice firepower... the problem is it can't force a battle with anything BUT a very old cruiser or some PDNs.  Its ripe to be swarmed under via Torpedo Boat.

Michael

Guinness

My thought on this ship is that you don't want it to be anything that needs an escort...

The Rock Doctor

Mike - agreed, it can't force battle.  The notion is that the attacker would have to go through this ship to reach its intended target.

Guinness - valid point.
