This one is so good, it gets its own thread. :)

A CSA study for an "ultimate battleship", brought on by Confederate analysis of the Colombian Radiante class. It would require tech not yet researched, including quad turrets...

Yeah, fixed. I typed that while my wife was nagging me for the fifth time today to tell her when I'm coming home from work.

The turreted secondaries should be mount&hoist.
Is there anything that validates the 6" deck armor? Besides being armored against heavy 18" shells at ~25ky?

I'm still completely foggy on the rules surrounding turreted secondaries. To have more than 1" armor, they have to be turret on barbette, right?

As far as the 6" deck. *mumbles* because I could *mumbles*. Actually, everything else was driven by hull dimensions required to keep the recoil down. I suppose I could justify it by saying that it's actually a 4.5" deck backed by a 1.5" splinter deck. I'm surprised no one called me out for using a tall 3" torpedo bulkhead as ballast :)

At any rate, I'm still tinkering, and here's an update below.

Rockie: actually my answer was "when you quit asking me, I'll think about coming home". She probably wants me to get something down from somewhere high up (which in her case is anything over 6 feet above the ground). Ah the Christmas spirit!

I think P3D is making the point that the secondary should be simmed as "Deck mount with hoist" rather than "turret and barbette" because the tech tree doesn't yet allow for turret and barbette for guns of that size.

I scold you for your use of the TBD as ballast.  Boo!

Right, hence my confusion, because if I understand the rules now, they say something to the effect of "guns under 8 inches must be simmed as mount and hoist" and also "mount and hoist can only have splinter protection 1" and under". But we know there are historical analogs with turreted secondaries with more than 1" armor on the mount and/or the ammunition supply system.

At any rate, here's a mount and hoist version, adhering to the 1" armor rule, which is even more of an oil tanker... :)

Is the 0.99 recoil effect ideal for such a ship?

P3D

I'd suggest lengthening and widening the hull a bit (you have some space), that should give adequate recoil margin.

Isn't the armor for mount with hoist is limited to 1" hoist/sides and 2" face?

Really? I thought it was 3" face and 1" every thing else

So what is adequate recoil margin? .95? .96? I've got no idea...

Here's a 4x3x15inch version on a bigger hull:
