Office of Ambassador to France Kanryu Takeda.
June 2nd, 1919

Takeda: Muriel!

Muriel LaMond, secretary to Takeda: Oi, monsieur Takeda?

T: Who was my secretary in 1905?

M: I believe that was Mademoiselle Piquet. Of course back then she was still mademoiselle Luman, before she left and got married.

T: Ah, yes... I remember her now. I need to see her IMMEDIATELY!

M: But monsieur, she moved to Marcelle after her marriage.

T: Send Rene. I need her NOW! No excuses, no exceptions. It seems some rather important paperwork was either never delivered or flat out lost and I need to know which.

M: Of course monsieur, I will send for Rene immediately.

T: Good. Once he's off start digging through the archives from late 1904 through early 1905. I need a telegram from Count von Bülow relating to the lease of Socotra.

M: Of course, right away.

JH: They WHAT!?!?!

Administrative Assistant Maxine Franke: They cancelled the order, just got the message from Foreign Affairs 10 minutes ago.

JH: Well did those goody two shoes in Foreign Affairs say what I'm supposed to do with the 3,000 tons already on the slip and the other 1,000 tons being delivered next week did they?!? Did they say how I'm supposed to tell that slip crew they don't have a job anymore until something else is ordered? We've never been asked to build anything larger than a torpedoboote before, I had to pull half that crew from the local farms and mines. Now they've all been replaced, where will they go for work? How will they eat?

MF: Calm down Johan, you know what the doctor said. I'm sure they won't leave us in the lurch like that. Look at it this way, it's only worth 0.6KM and 600t or reusable steel as is. Finished, it can be sold for much more.

JH: True, but that requires thought..not something I'm sure they can do over there in the 'Ivory Towers' of Neu Brandenburg.

MF: Johan, one should be careful with talk like that. You remember poor Reinhard from the docks in Rio Grande de Sol don't you?

F: Yes, Herr Houpt?

RH: You made me lose count. Now I have to start all over.....again!!!!

T: So you're absolutely sure a message from Count von Bülow regarding Socotra crossed my desk?

Cheri Piquet, former secretary to Takeda: No, but if it did someone other than me processed it. I would not have missed something that important, nor did I ever.

T: No, you never did miss anything. I do miss seeing you around the office though.

C: I'm sure that's not the only place you miss seeing me Monsieur Takeda. *giggle*

T:(Blushing) No....no it's not, but those days are behind us. How is André?

C: Well, he's enjoying the life of a professional sailor I suppose. He's gone a lot.

T: I bet you get lonely, eh Cheri?

C: Sometimes, but I do love him so. So, I soldier on. Knowing he'll return and that he's not away with some other woman.

T: So, um...you say you never saw any message from von Bülow. Fair enough, I'll have Muriel see you to your car, I have some calls to make.

JH: (To self over a glass of brandy) Finally. Now I don't have to worry about trying to hide the big green thing anymore. Now that the Reichsmarineamt has received word from Richmond to 'cancel' Knoxville I don't have to worry about someone showing up wondering where she is. I'll bet my next 10 paychecks that that order to cancel has the name J. B. Le'Fruge at the bottom of it. *Chuckle*

Konteradmiral Johann Schmidt3 looked over the intelligence once again and wondered to himself if they would ever change. Deciding they probably would not he began drafting new orders for the units under his command, the woefully under equipped Indischeflotte.

I can buy the other misidentifications, but the Helpers? With all those cranes and stuff, they should be the easiest to identify.

Kaiser Friedrich IV
Großesadmiral Friedrich von Ingenohl - Secretary of State of the Imperial Naval Office
Generalfeldmarschall Helmuth Johann Ludwig von Moltke - Chief of the General staff
Generaloberst Walther Nicolai - Director of the Abwehr
Generaloberst Hienrich Karl von Töllburg - Director of the Reichsicherheitsdienst
Erich Hermann von Lindenhoff - Minister of Foreign Affairs

KF: So, what is this situation that is coming from Afrika?

EHvL: It appears that the Italians have went ahead and declared war on the Zionite for 'breech of treaty'.

KF: I see. What are these 'breeches'?

EHvL: They say that by receiving military hardware and the personnel to train the Zionites on it from New Switzerland is a "cooperative military agreement" between Zion and Switzerland. I suppose it could be construed that way, if you wanted to.

HJLvM: And how would you do that?

EHvL: Well, as well all no nothing Swiss is free. Therefore it is simple logic to presume that in exchange for the 'free' Swiss military hardware and personnel to train in its use the Zionites must have given something to the Swiss. If I give you instruction on how to use a shrimp fork in exchange for you showing me how to use a mortar this is an 'cooperative agreement' if it involved strictly military equipment and training it would be a 'cooperative MILITARY agreement', yes?

HJLvM: Hmm....yes..I suppose it would then.

KF: Is that all?

EHvL: No, they also claim that those 'instructors' are also 'Third Party Military Forces" "Based in New Zion" therefore a breech of article  5 as well. They also claim, and this one is completely verified, that the Zionists have yet to sign ANY of the Hague treaties or the Vienna convention.

KF: Well..thin..but considering the previous actions of Zion, what with assassinating the Pope and all, I guess I can see why that would be enough. The question now become how do we stop it from spreading to Ostafrika, and what do we do if it does?

HJLvM: I recommend the immediate mobilization of all active corps in Ostafrika and Aden as well as the activation of the reserve corps as soon as the active troops are mobilized. I'd also recommend that our aircraft at Dar-es-Salaam monitor the area looking for advancing forces.

FvI: I'd recommend that all KM vessels based in Ostafrika be put on high alert and all leave be cancelled, but Kontraadmiral Schmidt already did that on his own accord. I'd also have the U-boot forces act as advanced warning for any approaching warships, but this too is already in action. I'm not terribly concerned with that gaggle of floating antiques the Zionists call a navy, but we all know that the Swiss are at Masirah. We don't think they've moved anymore ships into the area, or at least we've not caught them, nor have them moved out of Masirah.

KF: Both of your recommendations are sound, see that they are enacted immediately.

EHvL: So, are we staying neutral, joining sides, or waiting to see, Kaiser?

KF: Waiting to see...for now. I don't like the idea of having any more Swiss around us than there already are. I don't need them near our colonies too. But, nothing the Zionites have done effect us directly therefore I can't in good conscience just declare war on them. However we do have obligations that we will uphold.

EHvL: Very well. Are we closing our ports to anyone as of now?

KF: No, at least not to merchant shipping. No armed ships, in the civilian ports and with pilots and guards in the military ports.

EHvL: Very well, I'll send the message.

Field Office of Konteradmiral Johan Schmidt
Dar-es-Salaam Naval Base

Schmidt: They've what?!?

Aide: This Official statement (hand a copy to KAdm Schmidt) from the Zion Government says they're laying mine field across the entire width of the Rift Sea. It does not say where of course, so I could be from Atlit east towards the point, or from Eilat towards Italian Somalia, it could even be from Tel Aviv towards Dire Dawa, although that would be suicide considering who close they'd have to get to the Italian coastal guns.

Schmidt: Yes, quite so. No, with the current positions of Italian defenses and vessels it HAS to be from Atlit towards the point, but that puts the last 6nm of the east end in OUR waters. This is not acceptable. Draft orders for XIV Flotilla to patrol off the point. If a Zionite ship comes within 2nm of our territorial waters warn it off. If they fail to heed permission is granted to fire a warning shot. If they cross the 6nm limit anyway, open fire. I will NOT let them mine OUR waters. If they stay out to sea, leave them alone. I don't want to start a war, but I can not let them do what they want in our waters. Just to be safe, dispatch the III Minensuchen squadron from here as well, have them go around the south end off Blantrye and refuel at Dodoma. That way if we're too late at least the mines in Brandenburg waters can be cleared away....and heaven forbid we find any.

Aide: Jarwohl! As you order.

OOC The minefields will be in Zionite/Italian/International waters and definitely north of the DKB. The DKB would of course get maps detailing the location of said minefields.

That said, I do find it ironic coming from the one that mined the Torres Strait...
