Ok, my first attempt at a ship for the CSN. I decided to start small (and cheap) to make any errors in design as painless as possible. I have tech for superfiring mounts and hoists, and the oil-fired plant makes for some good range.

Comments?
Suggestions?
Hot Lead?

All are welcome... hopefully she can benefit from the former two and stand up to the latter.

Ahoj!
A bit slow. As you are oil fired you have no excuse. 26 knots should be minimum.
IMO excessive armour - 3 inches is enough.
Although she is big enough to comfortably operate c.5 inch guns, I still don't like that calibre point - I'm a 4 or (5,5') 6 inch man.
I suspect 2 inch thick gun shields to hinder training a bit - but I will ask around.

Thanks! I'll work on her a bit, and will repost!
The slower speed came from not knowing how many screws I could fit on that hull. I didn't know if 4 would fit, so I went with three. The big limiter is the fact that I can only get 5000 HP per turbine.
The 4.85" seems to be the standard QF gun that I've inherited. If I re-vamp the fleet, I'm gonna fix that and try moving to a 4.5" gun.
As for the mounts, I thought that since they were hoist mounts, I would have to have them powered in some way.

Basic Confederate gun scaling is based on the weight of the shells (55 pounders, 100 pounders, 6 pounders, etc...).

I just simmed another version, but could only get another 1.1 knots... and the cost grew by $.50 or so, plus the displacement topped 4000t. NOT what I had in mind. I don't like it too much, since it's cost and size ballooned and I didn't get but 1.1 knots out of it. This was supposed to be for scouting and perhaps for dealing with or acting as a corsair in the event of 'unpleasantness.' Way too much mission creep. I might have to totally rework it: reducing the number/caliber of guns, etc in order to get it back on track.

Lightened it up by removing a pair of 4.85 inchers, knocked off a couple of hundred tons, and got it to 23.25 knots. It's getting back down towards the displacement and cost that I originally had in mind ($3 and 3000t). Still a bit over on both, but I guess that some tweaking can fix it... though I doubt I can get her much faster till I get better engines. Maybe in the next class...

I'll try and do a line drawing of her sometime after I get some sleep. I've been working on a light AC as well, and it's 'interesting' (read: 'probably unworkable') gun layout has kept me up till 0330 local time. Hopefully, it wasn't wasted time... I'll post that one here as well soon, as these are meant to operate together in the Gulf.
