A monitor is a small coastal BB with poor speed & short armament, she is unable to fight & win when an enemy squadron attack a base, an harbor or the coast.
In a defender spirit, why not built big monitor, really able to engage enemy BB or CB.

That's a battleship without bunkerage, not a monitor.  You might as well build her as a proper battleship.

Without bunkerage, she could be well armed & protected
She could probably defeat similar 26000t BB with 8x15"

I just don't think this concept is worth the cost.  The operating radius of these very expensive ships is so limited as to make them useless.  Spend the extra dollars necessary to make them fully-rounded warships.

P3D

You are saving in the order of 500 to 1000t  with crippling the operational flexibility of the ships.
About the 275mm one, it is outgunned by every slower ships (save old armored cruisers and pdns) and any ship weaker are faster - with a lot of faster and more powerful ships around.

If you want a coastal defense vessel, just use your PDNs. They work fine in such a role.

That looks potentially handy as a patrol or escort asset.  How difficult would it be to jam in 100 t more for fire control?

I would think since Patrol Boats aren't meant to engage 'real' warships he could cut speed to 16-18 knots and save enough weight for FC. Makes a nice gunfire support ship for landings too..maybe add some deck armor to resist shore battery fire.
