The Rock Doctor

This is a notional "light armored cruiser" for use scouting and counter-raiding ops that don't warrant one of the larger ACs.

The two single 234mm guns are intended to have cross-deck firing arcs, as well as being able to shoot ahead and aft.  Essentially, seeking to avoid superfiring turrets while keeping a four-gun salvo fore and aft.

Interesting. As we've seen, I've struggled with heavy light cruisers myself.

Don't you have a 7.5"ish gun in inventory? I wonder if you might be better served with that weapon than the 9.2" here. As it is now, I wonder if the armor would be sufficient against a 9.2" armed opponent. Also, I think you might want to carry a little more ordnance than 150 rpg, considering how long you might expect this ship to be away from port. Otherwise, speed and range, etc. seem to fit the task well.

P3D

I think superfiring is not too punishing, I could slim down my 13,300t 8x9.2" design by ~2000t.

Ah, and won't fit in a lvl 2 drydock.

maddox

Lighter armor, lighter, but more heavy guns and fitting in a lvl2 dock/slip.
Also much higher cruising speed for the same range.

The French "lozegne" layout :)

I have some designs for 6-8K tonnes ships, with 8/10x7,5".
Or at 10K - 8x9".
I feel that I have a need for such ships.
But not enough money - so I have to build 4000 tonners. After I have a dozen of those, I will build ACs.

IMHO, single turrets with big guns are not very useful & effective in action,
Your boardside is just 5x234 with the side disposition...

Better disposition with 3T2x234 - idem to Kostenko BB or AC Shinchi Roca

The Rock Doctor

There's an old 194mm gun in the inventory, currently used only on a river monitor.  While it's too small to be captured in our naval gun tech tree, I'd feel obliged to develop a new one.

And I have considered it.  There are some satisfactory, 6-10 x 194mm designs parked on my hard drive.

As to protection - I thought that would be adequate against 9.2" at longer ranges, and good against 6-8" guns at most likely battle ranges.

The length is easily corrected; I've been trying to watch for that when I design stuff, but mistakes happen.

The Rock Doctor

This is a 194mm cruiser I've played with.  Lightish on armor, but I like her legs.

She lacks a bit I would search in a vessel that size.

This is my attempt to better her.

3Ktons larger, a bit slower, equaly gunned, but Incredible legs and a better gun platform.

At 27 knots, she's battlecruiser bait.  And what on earth do I need that much range for?

I reckon the French design is over-armored and not really worth the 30% size increase, though I agree it'd be nice to get a steady gun platform rating.

This is a 194mm cruiser I've played with.  Lightish on armor, but I like her legs.
Tricky to give comment on a type of ship i think is pointless...
Think it would be worth to increase the ship about 50% in size to ~15kton.
While that would put the ship in a different category, it could give a ship with 6x30cm guns and 20cm belt, without losing speed or range. This would kick the crap out of similar cruisers, while still maintaining a much greater threat range as it could support larger ships in a fleet action if required.

Could post a design, but i feel a bit rude in invading other peoples threads with my own stuff.
