Desertfox

A very cheap patrol boat for coastal work. The quarterdeck is empty so the boat can serve as a coastal minesweeper (with simple minesweeping equipment), VERY slow torpedo boat (with 2x14" torpedoes), or raider (with a squad of marines). The boat carries 1,000 lbs of 'signaling' equipment (rockets, and a mortar).

   Hull, fittings & equipment: 12 tons, 43.7 %
   Fuel, ammunition & stores: 2 tons, 8.8 %
   Miscellaneous weights: 4 tons, 14.4 %

Overall survivability and seakeeping ability:
Survivability (Non-critical penetrating hits needed to sink ship):
     24 lbs / 11 Kg = 6.3 x 2.0 " / 50 mm shells or 0.1 torpedoes
Stability (Unstable if below 1.00): 1.19
   Metacentric height 0.2 ft / 0.1 m
   Roll period: 9.0 seconds
   Steadiness   - As gun platform (Average = 50 %): 50 %
         - Recoil effect (Restricted arc if above 1.00): 0.14
   Seaboat quality  (Average = 1.00): 1.31

Hull form characteristics:
   Hull has a flush deck
   Block coefficient: 0.400
   Length to Beam Ratio: 9.00 : 1
'Natural speed' for length: 9.49 kts
Power going to wave formation at top speed: 59 %
   Trim (Max stability = 0, Max steadiness = 100): 38
Bow angle (Positive = bow angles forward): 20.00 degrees
   Stern overhang: 0.00 ft / 0.00 m
Freeboard (% = measuring location as a percentage of overall length):
      - Stem:      7.00 ft / 2.13 m
      - Forecastle (20 %):   5.00 ft / 1.52 m
      - Mid (40 %):      4.00 ft / 1.22 m
      - Quarterdeck (20 %):   4.00 ft / 1.22 m
      - Stern:      4.00 ft / 1.22 m
      - Average freeboard:   4.46 ft / 1.36 m
Ship tends to be wet forward

Ship space, strength and comments:
   Space   - Hull below water (magazines/engines, low = better): 131.7 %
      - Above water (accommodation/working, high = better): 83.2 %
Waterplane Area: 524 Square feet or 49 Square metres
   Displacement factor (Displacement / loading): 110 %
Structure weight / hull surface area: 11 lbs/sq ft or 56 Kg/sq metre
   Hull strength (Relative):
      - Cross-sectional: 0.72
      - Longitudinal: 3.45
      - Overall: 0.84
Caution: Hull subject to strain in open-sea
Hull space for machinery, storage, compartmentation is cramped
Room for accommodation and workspaces is cramped
Good seaboat, rides out heavy weather easily
