Well, after different futur studies, I return in my program.

I can built in 1915 & 1917, 2 x 8000t cruisers (16000t in all).

I choose probably 1 escort cruiser & 1 fast cruiser.

Here is a 8000t escort cruiser with 3T2x305-AQY-

I don't like the 'slow eggshells with big hammer' concept. If they operate close to the battleline, they will face battleships or battlecruisers - and won't last long against them. Fast coastal defense ships, rather.

The Rock Doctor

I'm not a fan of it either, really.  The big guns don't shoot fast enough to be really effective against the small, fast stuff, and there's not enough of the faster-firing medium-caliber stuff to justify the cost.

Sachmle

If their job is to hang around the BBs and ward off the enemies DDs/TBs and small cruisers, then 6" guns are more than enough, just have lots of them. If they are to fight in the line w/ the BBs as substitutes/fill ins then the 12" are ok, but you'll need a lot more armour, or they go Queen Mary real quick. You've done almost the exact opposite of what Jackie Fisher did. He took BB guns and size, and mixed it with cruiser speed and armor. You took BB guns and speed, and mixed it w/ cruiser size and armour....bad mix.

Well,

That certainly a good concept in 1900, but, in 1912-1915- with the new fast BC, escort cruiser with
cruiser armour + BB speed + big guns ...
I agree with you, they are poor ships.

340 & 305mm guns don't shoot fast enough to engage cruisers or DDs.

They just hope a lucky hit...

Are you sure you have enough space for the secondary casemates abovedeck in the 8x230mm design? I had to redesign my BB, as I could not fit all the 6" casemates and three triples on the  same deck level.

I like the 6x230mm one  better.

It is the same disposition to Atahualpa BB
APQY for the main armament with the same lenght of hull - 168m.
T2x230 are smaller than T2x340-
so no problem for 8x120mm
