OK with the engine tech the ottomans will shortly have (h2 1910) they could build the following ships to update their cruiser force.  I programmed in two AC's but most likely I will switch it to 1 AC and several PC's as their light cruiser force is badly dated.

Considering the ships of the Ottomans neighbours, I have some problems with this ship, and would be interested in knowing the thought behind the design.
The reason I question it is that when looking first at the Italian and Habsburg battleships, most of them have speeds of 22kts or more. Italy also has some with speeds of 25kts (and ignoring the 1911 ships). All those ships are capable of outfighting this AC by a wide margin.
So this marks enemy light cruisers as the primary targets, but she is far to slow to be able to catch or engage them.
 
While her protection is not bad, it is not very good either, a bit overkill for the Italian and Iberian 20&25cm guns, but too weak against BBs guns (considering her weak main battery).

Of course I could see her in another context then she is intended for, that is why I think it would be very nice to know the background for her. :)

Other then that; were are the mines? The Ottomans seems to be very advanced in mine technology so it is strange that she does not carry any.

Part of the problem is the Ottomans general lack of cash and all resources.  I can't R&D a new gun and turret so I had to stick with weapons they already have in service.  Also BB/AC tech is limited to hex ships.  The design is a compromise as a result and not the best possible on displacement just the best I can see the Ottomans building.  She is intended a counter to the Italian Gothicus Combat Cruiser and her speed is close 23.1 to 23.2 knots.  I did think about a 280mm design to give her more fire power but that would just result in clone of my own cross deckers so I went with the smaller weapon.

The Austrians don't have an active armored cruiser type in 1910, I doubt the Turks worry much about SMS Budapest.  While I am about to knife them I don't see Iberia as being much on the turks radar, that will change by 1911 at which point I will increase the numbers of TB's being built.

In general the Ottomans just need something that can run around the eastern Med and Black Sea.

As to the PC, I will make some changes for the belt and mine tech; the former was because I up engined the design and forgot to check armor and the later is I forgot.  Thanks for the catch...

Was thinking more about the BB Gaulius, and the smaller scout battleships, against whom this ship have a very marginal speed advantage and hugely inferior in firepower and protection.
And considering the year, it is quite clear that several countries are building ship of around 25 kts with 30cm or larger guns.

One should not forget the Russian black sea battleships either, and they got a speed of 23kts as well.

Not the Austrian cruisers I was thinking of, but their 22 and 23kts battleships.

I think they should look into using the 28cm gun at least. In fact, a von der Tann-like ship seems possible at this displacement...

An idea (feel free to throw it out);A design competition! :D
Specify max cost (displacement) and what guns and stuff are available, as well as the tech limits. One final design per player (to avoid drowning in designs ;)) Or in som other way that You think is suitable.

Even if none of them would be selected in the end, it would at least be fun for the rest of us to do some designing with unfamiliar (and therefore interesting) parameters. :)

Korpen has an interesting idea.
Imagine the Turks doing what the Argentianians did in RL.
They collected offers for battleships, picked the best parts (or those of itnerest to them), slapped them together, and asked for detailed proposals :)

The problem is the Ottomans need a newer AC but can't pay much for it and don't have much tech to work with either.  A 25 or 26 knot design is nice but it pushes the size up which is a big deal for a nation with only 9 BP a half to work with.  The result is going to be substandard by default and the logic of its not as good as the possible enemies means the Ottomans build nothing.  In any event it doesn't matter they will live or die by their army.  That is my thoughts at any rate.

I did go for slightly less protection, to save weight.
Armour layout: The Deck is split is two, one 30mm deck at weather deck level, resting atop the upper belt, and a 25mm splinter catching deck at the waterline that bends down and meet the bottom of the main belt. The upped deck is non existent over the ends, but the splinter deck increase to 55m for and aft of the citadel. Wing turret barbarettes would not be of uniform thickness, but 17cm on the outboard side, and 23cm in the inboard side (this as a shell hitting them on the outboard side would have to penetrate the upper belt first). All barbarettes have half thickness the last 50cm before meeting the splinter deck, but in return almost double indicated thickness in the parts extending above the weatherdeck.
Main belt extends 2m above, and 1,5m below the waterline at normal loading.

Those AC designs look better to me.  They have a margin of speed to avoid battleships, and are equal or better than any AC in the Med.  Austria and Iberia will be challenged to take her down.

Very true.
I think trying to save some cash on building the 13,3kton version is false economy. The 14kton version offer several times the combat utility for a cost increase that only amounts to a single torpedo boat or two.

Personally, I think it fits them nicely as well, after all, they got two "Nassau" battleships, so why not a "von der Tann"-cruiser?  8)
