Also true.

Wars are not infrequent here, and can develop into one-sided affairs if one of the initial belligerents is particularly unpopular.  However, neutral pressure - both in-character and out-of-character - usually results in a negotiated end to the war after a few months.  That means decisive defeats are not common.

l'Indochine (South Viet'nam) is a former French Colony that gained autonomy via a referendum vote. While "independent" it still receives some 'protection' from France is is friendly with the Deutsche Reich (I send them 10RM, which is the in-game equivalent of $10,000,000 every 6mo). They are however the 2nd most hated nation in the eyes of all 189 million Reformist Chinese. So...there's that.

Depends on the nation, but most small nations have some sort of protector, who would step in in case they got invaded. For example, New Switzerland is looking out for both New Zion and Siam.

Why we will never know. The Deutsche Reich also protects Siam. (We even went to war over them recently)

Springsharp is the ship design tool.  It's not really math intensive - one typically fiddles with it by simming a basic historical design - say a light cruiser - and tinkering with the input to see what it does to the output.
Sorry I wasn't clear, I meant the game in general.  I just downloaded Springsharp and it looks like a lot of fun (especially with all the reading about the Anglo-German naval race I've been doing recently).

I did notice that (I read the battle reports for the 1912 Balkans War).  It would appear to me that Clausewitz applies very well to the Nverse, where military force is simply an extension of politics and the end result is going to be decided by politicking anyways,

It's mostly because most wars aren't worth it. That's why if victory cannot be achieved quickly, damage to both sides escalated exponentially.

It's better to take the quick lost than to lose completely, that would be devastating.

That is false, they are the 1st most hated nation :P We expect that kind of behavior from the Swiss, but not a fellow Asian. (But then again, Swiss is closely 2nd so that doesn't make much of a difference).

Stop looking for a chance to say that and use that picture, TC :P

Greece is probebly what I would recommend.....

Greece is the one I've been looking at the most so far.  And I'm glad it would have (seemingly) strong protectors/allies.  No offense to the Hapsburgs/Iberians/(French?) but I'm not quite sure how to measure power yet, so my definition of "strong" is currently because someone else says it is so, and may have their own agenda for saying so.

France is, without question, the world's superpower. It has the largest fleet, most BP (indication of shipbuilding capacity), and is Navalism's version of the UK, early 1900's. Austria is a middle range power, and is mostly as historical, except without the corruption. Iberia is slightly smaller than Austria, but still has a powerful fleet.

Makes me wonder who is playing Tirpitz now :D

Strangely enough, Tirpitz is playing himself. He currently resides in the the Wilhelmshaven area of the East Sea Confederation, who continue to attempt to out quality (read SIZE) the French navy on an individual ship level since they can't out build them number wise.

They actually are, I think, at the moment, but they have almost no modern light cruisers or destroyers at the moment, as a result.

Darman

Sounds about right... try to beat the dominant navy with battleships and ignore destroyers, subs, torpedo boats, and coastal defenses until you realize war is imminent then realize your supply of the above units is inadequate.

That is quite an entertaining idea though

The Current King of Greece is the Uncle or family member of the Emperor of Iberia...?????
He was put in power by a revolt of the Greeks against the oppressive Ottoman Turks  ;)
The Revolt was remarkebly well supplied with modern equipment and when the Turks moved to crush the rebels Iberia and the habsburg Empires moved to stop the oppression of the Orthodox Christians. ::)

Since then Greece has become a Constitutional Monarchy I believe with several different parties all of which who receive occasional outside funding.   Most of that Funding comes from Iberia and the Habsburg Empires.  :o

Makes sense, and it also makes sense that Greece continue to pursue a benevolent policy towards its benefactors.  Especially with a power Ottoman Empire to deal with.
