17/5 09 Scapa Flow:
Flotten-Kadet Rolf Jonsson stood proud at the bridge:"Let go forward,Starbord engine ahead 1/3" ,he glanced backwards towards to Linie-kapitan Gudjohnsson anxiuos to see if he had done rigth.The ship started swaying to starbord and slowly started to move;" Let go abaft,both engines forward one-third";Rolf shouted.
Slowly the "Jormungand" picked up speed  and started to head for the exit of the base together with the rest of the Scapa-squadron towards the first leg of the patrol from Scapa to Reykyavik and then to Bergen and back to Scapa.
He could feel Capt.Gudjohnssons eyes in the back of his head,but still felt pride of commanding the ship while leaving their Dutch base.
22/5 09 Hamburg.
Lisa-Lisa!;Albert shouted,as he came rushing through the door to the small appartment,We´ve got it,We have the loan!!!
Lisa turned to him,smiling,Yes,he continued Now we can buy the lot near Altona and start building our new home.Elated Albert hugged his wife,and said:It is not only us,nearly all my work-mates who applied for the loan got it!
And there is more;he continued,they will expand the old dry-dock and rumour says they will build a luxury liner to sail between Hamburg and New York.
But-but;Lisa answered a bit anxiuos;You meen we are to move?
Yes,My Liebchen,Next spring,I suppose,Our new house will be ready.
But can we afford it?;Lisa still sounded a bit anxious.
Yes,We only have to pay 12 Marks more in rent every month ,and then after 25 years it is our house,and the boys can play out in the fresh air,away from the smoke in the city.
Lisa hurled herself in his arm:I love you!
29/6 09  the North Atlantic
"Flotten-Kadet Jonsson to the Captains quarter"!,Rolf turned around and saw his C.O standing behind him,smiling,"The captain wants to see you".
Rolf saluted and started to walk across from the bridge,towards the ladder down to the Captains quarters,butterflies slowly filling his stomach.
He knocked on the captains door;"Come In",Rolf went in and stood to attention,"At ease and sit down",Linie-kapitan Gudjohnsson looked at him with his ice-blue piercing eyes;I have had many kadetts in my career but you are something special!Rolfs thougths swirled,What have I done?Have I messed up?
He nearly darred look at his superior.Then Capt Gudjohnsson weatherwrithen face ligthed up;"I guess you are somekind of a natural!"
Rolf looked at him puzzled;"You are among the most gifted navigators I`ve ever met";Gudjohnsson continued,"I have been checking your navigational skills and I am impressed.You have a high accuracy in your position taking and your other skill are second to none!"
He continued;"I have been appointed as C.I.C of the explorationship Aurora Borealis and I need a good navigator and "Styrismann" to accompany me on this expedition!Rolf looked at him dumbfounded;"So,young man,I will give you an offer,due to your provess,I would like you to join me on the Borealis.
