Greetings,

I have been working on some artwork for a Reconstruction of my old Glory Class. It is based on the Lord Nelsons plus Drednought. There are still a few things I would like to finish on it.

I had to use Paint as it is all I have at Home. At my old job I used Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel, so it was a definate step backwards.

What do you folks use?

Ahoj!
The sketches which I should NOT show to anybody with any aesthetical sense are made with Paint.
What you have made is loight years beyond my skill.
The mugshot is excellent - a really menacing air ...

I'm ashamed of my lack of skill now.

I use paint, but it hardly matters my best picture...

Looks like a childs scrible compared to that...  great work!

I'm slowly getting better, but I think that the CSA's artists might have to start contracting work out ot the UNK! That's excellent, Blooded!

While I have no ship like this, nor will I anytime soon, this is my best with paint so far.

My skills with Paint appear sub-par, though I don't base my ships on any others, just free-hand (well mouse).

Walter

I mainly use MS Paint. I use PSP8 to go to 256 colours (MS Paint makes a f**king mess of the colors when you go to 256 colours) as well as blowing up and shrinking stuff, rotating pieces, and certain effects for a few other types of picture (Aged Newspaper, brighten/darken picture, etc.).

... unfortunately I do not have anything for Navalism. Since I based Navalism's IJN on the historical IJN, I didn't see any need to draw anything.

I do have some Wesworld stuff, some better than others, some more detailed than others and mainly the big stuff as I am pretty bad with the small ships.

Few notes on the attached pictures:
- Flightdeck Casino picture had an uncompleted below waterline section so I quickly put something at the rear.
- Chitose had no below waterline section at all so I quickly messed around a bit with the Yukino hull and the Rina bow.
- Actual size of the Kamatari picture is about 7250x1300 pixels (other two attached pictures of the bridge and the crane+catapult aft are actual size) so having been shrunk a bit, she looks different from the rest.

Thanks for the kind words gentlemen.

My next few(when I get time will be much more basic-probably 1 pixel to the foot-just to save time).

Nice work gents. It is good to see what you have designed for SS2 ships.

Walter, beautiful ships. I had been using Gif and jpg as formats in Paint (gif for Black and White) when I stumbled on png it doesn't blur the colors each time you save it (very nice to know- but still a cumbersome program). this had been my first color peice because of that. but it takes a lot more time than B&W.

The blur really depends on the jpg compression you use... which is another reason I use PSP8. At 1% compression, there is no noticeable blurr so whenever I have lots of colours, I try to keep the jpg compression as low as possible. If you save to jpg using Paint, you will get a blurr (especially with linedrawings) as the compression Paint uses is something like 30%.
I use 256 colors in my pictures (I don't need more colors). Since I have mainly used Paint over the many years, it has become a habit to use gif.
PNG sizes really vary. I noticed that if I save the Kamatari as PNG, it is even smaller than the gif version. However, if I save this nice AWNR page section I have as PNG, it will be twice as big as a jpg file using 1% compression.

So whether it is better to save it as jpg, png or gif, much depends on the picture itself I think.

It helps a lot when you can use pieces of your older pictures, not only for the shape of objects, but also the colours for the specific objects as well as the base colours of the hull. I definitely do that with the deck of my ships (see picture why (carrier top view of HIJMS Chitose)).

Edit: Forgot to say that this Chitose top view was made before I improved the looks of the funnels on the side view so the two pictures don't quite match at the moment.

Walther,

please use an external image hosting service instead of uploading them.
