"Ah yes... honour... honesty..." Praeger coughed. "Lord Rufus. Japan is at war with New Switzerland as of February. We were promised nothing to join the war. Our relations with the Middle Kingdom demanded that we had to take action... though due to some internal problems, it took rather long before we did take action. The Swiss on the other hand promised us lots and lots of things and used lots and lots of lies in order to get Japan to betray her allies by stabbing them in the back and then join New Switzerland."

Ambassador Mosby rose from his chair... slowly, but forcing Patton to restrain his urge to aid him with a friendly but stern glance. Now was not the time to accept help in standing; now he had to stand for his country- though he doubted he'd be so quick to disdain help in sitting down again. Years in the saddle can be murder on the knees.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, speaking for the Confederate States of America on this issue is no easy task. We find allies on both sides of the war, allies amongst the wronged neutrals, and allies among those determined to proceed with business as usual. We have- up till this point- maintained a benevolent neutrality, allowing nations to continue doing business with us in any way they had prior to the war's commencing. We do, however, grow tired of the incessant fighting.

I implore you!
LOOK AT YOUR NATIONS NOW!
*Mosby's hand made little impact upon the hard table as it slammed down, but the gesture was both genuine and attention-getting*

How do you stand in comparison to this time last year... and where will you stand this time next year if you all continue this fracas to it's final, inevitable stupidity? How many ships now litter the dark bottom of the Pacific, and how many mothers cry at the side of their son's grave? How much money has been wasted, how much infrastructure destroyed?

How long to recover... not just for your own people, but for everyone involved?

Or will you ever really recover?"

Mosby assessed the reactions around the table- at least he had their attention now. "That's good" he thought" they need to be listinin' now... and good."

"As of midnight on the first of this month, we ceased selling oil to the Swiss. We've found that our own demand and that of neutral parties is such that the impact from the loss of revenue will be minimum.

To the delegate of Swiss: this is our statement of dissatisfaction- and a long time coming, it is- for your initiation of this conflict. The decision will not be reversed. When the Swiss are sensible enough to consider peace, the oil will flow again.

To our erstwhile friends amongst the Alliance- cease and desist with your claims to territory that you do not hold, and which you will never be able to take.

Shall the Emperor of Nippon squander his fleet and his subjects on a few square miles of mountain top in the middle of a large pond?
Shall the Kaiser spend the flower of Brandenburger youth on an undeveloped island with no real resources?

Gentlemen, the Confederacy grows tired of this war; being removed from the immediacy of it's causes, perhaps we do not see the urgency for this campaign so much as each of you... but perhaps we see it's effect on you better than you yourselves do, for we see it from afar.

We do not see a proud name sank and a cause for revenge... we just see an empty slip and an unguarded coastline.

Come to your senses.
Before it's too late."

Once again the Lady in Red rose:

"I could argue about Saipan but that is not the point. but I am curious about those 'desipcable acts of the Swiss'.

As most of you know, the Swiss Confederation has come to the negotiationg table twice before. Both times just as we where at the point of reaching a conclusion, someone else decided to join the war, destroying the talks.

Here is what we can offer: (papers passed around)"

1: The Swiss Confederation relinquishes claims to various Pacific Islands, at the start of the war in Swiss possession, and now in 3rd party hands;

2: The Swiss Confederation places all its possessions in and around the Indian Ocean in the hands of a neutral third party

3: The Swiss Confederation  and the Middle Kingdom relinquishes all rights and any claims to Hainan;

4: The Swiss Confederation and the Middle Kingdom relinquishes all rights and any claims to Taiwan

5: The Swiss Confederation cedes to the Konkilijk Nederland's: - island of Buru

6: The Swiss Confederation leases to the Empire and Commonwealth of Japan : Aquijan for a period of 99 years, together with a port in North New Guinea.

7: Attu and Kiska to be given to Empire of japan for all eternity.

8: issues of compensation to be decided in separate negotiations between the interested parties

9: All parties to agree that if any nation violates this agreement all signatories are bound to enforce it.

10: Cease fire to begin on August Eighth 1908 at eight am.

I might note to the Lady from Switerland that it may be difficult to negotiate with the Middle Kingdom at present if they have no representative here in Mithlond.  Thereby it may be unwise to deal with Hainam and Taiwan here.

Uhm...

Swiss? Don't you mean Middle Kingdom at that point?

Pubilus Rutilius Rufus:  What the Swiss have no representatives? Then who is the lovely creature in red I was just yelling at?

passes a note to Ambassador Mosby, well looks like we are the only 2 old men here.  You fought in the war didnt you, and tell that young Charger with you to stop looking like he is being forced to take his medicine.

Paris, Current events, with delay....

The New Swiss did send a woman?  I hope she's not in her periode, because that would give even more unrealistic demands , from the already unrealistic NS.

She already did. She or the New Swiss demanded that the Middle Kingdom should leave the recently conquered islands of Hainan and Taiwan....  That's a surefire way to keep the Middle Kingdom there.
Prince Pu Lun assured us that the 2 islands won't be extra provinces of the Middle Kingdom, unless the New Swiss treathen to come back.

OoC:

Since the MK has decided that Formosa and Hainan are not under contest as long as the Swiss do not contest them, it appears that issue is now resolved.

If the Alliance finds the Swiss terms acceptable, it seems  like we have a beginning for peace here.

The only Swiss possession left in the Indian Ocean is Christmas island (it is currently leased to Orange).

So, I guess that it belongs to Orange permanently, now? ;)

well then that would meet the neutral third party requirement.

"they" rather than "the Swiss".

How would the Japanese classify their hold on the Saipan region and theoretical plot to take the Island to which condition the island may be used to bargine in these talks?

As Oranje is not a Neutral party, it does not meet that requirment.

is orange involved in the war in some way I am unaware of? and Teritory curently held by another nation (even in a lease) canot be honorably taken from that nation.  the best way to handle a situation like that is to pass the teritory to a neutral party with the lease continued.
