Pubilus Rutilius Rufus: (striding in after arriving 2 hours late)  What's this I over heard as I entered, a new treaty proposal, (smiles) I am truly glad to see that someone else got very little rest last night while working on a new proposal, and if this treaty meets with the approval of all the combatant powers I would see no reason I need to put mine forth.  Italia would View this as a Peace with Dignitas for all parties.  The Allies get their Victory, what else is there to claim in a war
"He either fears his fate too much,
Or his desserts are small,
Who dares not put it to the touch,
To win or lose it all!"

James Graham, 5th Earl of Montrose
1612 to 1650
Royalist General during the English Civil War

The Austrian delegation - with the beaming, revigorated Count again at its head - spaketh:
- the Habsbug Monarchy is ready to accept that proposal, maybe with minutae adjustments, pending agreement of the Alliance. The delegations of the Alliance need to confer to present a joint position.

"I am noting some differences in what each Alliance Power is wanting to get out of this conference. I make the exception of the Middle Kingdom, which I am going to treat as a seperate power from the Alliance, as they were technically still at war with New Switzerland before the Swiss declared war on the Neatherlands.  Also they appear to not be directly represented here at this time.  I had hoped they would get over their anger one day, but to some there is always a prime evil."

"It may help negotiations if we were given a clear picture of what each Allied Power wishes to get out of this conflict.  And I don't mean a nation or monarch's quest for glory or taking things that one does not yet have. I mean what goal do these powers have that does not relate to the Middle Kingdom's goal of the eradication of all things Swiss.  Reasonable items that could be met would be preferred."

"I would remind the lady from Switzerland that she is dealing in what is mainly a man's field and remind her that tempers are the very thing that can drive to an unnessecary war.  Losing your temper, or forcing someone else to lose theirs, is not proper when the goal is peace."

Minister Torres says, "I recognize that both Japan and New Switzerland may find item seven to be less than ideal, but given the proximity of Tinian, Saipan, and Aguijan, I think it is impractical and unwise to split those islands between you.

"Might I ask the Japanese delegation to advise me, publically or privately, what concerns them?  I can not improve on things without knowing what to improve upon."

The Iberian ambassador speaks with his Hapsburg counter part privately for a few minutes and then address the conference,  "Iberia has no objections to the provisions of term 7."

Sensing that various parties need time to confer with their aides and their capitals, and having exchanged notes with some of the Allies and the Swiss, Minister Torres calls for an adjournment for the day.

To one of his junior aides, he says, "Make dinner reservations for our party - some place with more than just wine in their storeroom.  I think I need a good, stiff drink."

"The colonials actually drink that stuff? I thought it was spot remover...
It is a good thing we stopped by in Inverness & on the Orkneys and loaded up on good whisky..."

After a conference like this, I suspect the Colombians would drink antifreeze, assuming it's been invented yet.

"How late is the Dutch embassy open?"

I have been looking around and after a while found a page that stated that antifreeze was created in 1923...
... so no antifreeze for the Columbians. They'll have to wait for 15 years to be able to drink it. :)

The General and his staff would love to try out  some of the Good Whisky the Dutch took along as well as the tequila and sour mash from the CSA.

The good general shall then find a case of 90-proof sent over to his rooms when he returns tonight, complements of the Jack Danial's Distillery.

In the morning, the early rising Habsburg representative banged on doors and made some social - or not so social - calls. An incomplete list of unhappy hosts of the hyperactive diplomat included the Colombian, Confederate, Iberian, Japanese, French, and Brandenburger delegations.

Given the above posts, it's distinctly possible that Senor Torres hasn't actually gone to bed when the Hapsburg gentlemen comes visiting.
