I was looking at a revamped New Switzerland without Japan but with other parts as the Philipines, Alaska, and maybe California. History would be slightly different with no Chinese-Swiss war, but a larger Holy Roman Empire/Spain-Swiss war. Holy Roman Empire now there's a thought (BoP?)! The navy would be similar but slightly different and larger (no major losses).

I'd actually think we could keep the Chinese-Swiss War just with a larger Swiss Republic, the loss wouldn't be so destructive to your nation as a whole.  It did take up a bit of time before and put other things in motion.  The political fallout might be much less than before however in some cases, larger in others (the real reason the Siwss lost the war in Asia would be because they had to fight a greater war with Spain-Hapsburg (Holy Romans or whatever), that keep Swiss forces away from China for the most part.  Korea could revert to Swiss again (plus the Peace Canal could be finished), then Taiwan and Hainan could be disputed, with Taiwan siding with Swiss and Hainan siding with China.  The Philappines could be an interesting place for a continued conflict between Swiss (Protestent) and Spain-Hapsburg (Catholic) forces.  I'd see the Swiss with a risen Numenor because that land mass is more suited for a mass of people than real world Hawaii ever will be.   Alaska and California will depend on how the final maps come out.  If Middle Earth is in the way, I'd call those colonies or spheres of influence (such as what happened in China) at best.  That also depends on where Rohan is in the end.  If I stay in North America, California will be a Rohirrim protectorate as before (Dougwise was going to play that when he had time).  Alaska isn't a worry aside from the distance involved having to contend with the ice to get around Middle Earth.  If Rohan is in Middle Earth, then some relational issues will need to be figured out before the Mark will just let you sail on past.

The location of New Beleriand will play a roll in what Rohan does as well.  If its Central America still the canal makes sense.  If the colony is North American Rohan...I'll need to adjust some things including the Anahuac War.  If its both...or a new colony of sorts....I'll have a bit of work to do without changing much aside from the distribution of ports and factories....but that will be figured out later.  I have some knowns....Rohan is in the location of old Middle Earth's Gondor (wherever that might be).  Greater New Beleriand is the place the Gondorians settled after the final gigantic eruption of Mt. Doom at the end of the Fourth Age.  The Anahuac Empire was to be based on the Aztec Empire.  The Anahuac or other pre-Aztec civilizations were in conflict with the Gondorians for land and theology (Followers of the Eye verses the Men of the West).  Rohan defeated the Anahuac Empire in 1900 at took some of their lands, which where probably part of Greater New Beleriand at one point in time.  Greater New Beleriand has be fought over and even conquored in the past for thousands of years.  Rohan is credited with stopping the first push by the Spanish into Central America (could change) and has been a protector to its Native American allies (could also change).

I have some pet ideas of mine.

First, I don't know if Alikchi really wants to keep the Ottomans, but...
i'd rather have a Byzantine empire instead of an Ottoman, and a Christian Egypt instead of a Muslim one. We do not have to accomodate the same NPC states here. Firanj is a bad idea and I do not want to see it again either. Australia should be united under one flag, at least its Eastern and Southern shore.

Also, I'd rather see at least two Chinese states, and a strong state in central Asia.

I would like to have someone in Western Australia to sparr with, that I would like to keep.

The Mughals are a strong state in Central Asia.

As for two Chinas ask Phoenix, perhaps a Mongol Empire?

See map thread...I left nations named as they are at present, but that can change...plus a few additions based on earlier in this and other threads.

I think we should keep to the 1.2 times map, the 1.1 just gets us a little too tight with ME in there.

P3D

If we have only the main ME continent, we can still fit it in the South Pacific. Otherwise we won't have ANY proven distance estimate.

Alikchi

I would like to keep the Ottomans. I've put too much into them to drop IMHO.

How about Ming and Qing Chinas, with the Ming in the south and Qing in the north, locked in perpetual low-level warfare?

BattleofthePyramids

If you are the Ottomans, then we are neighbors?  Who owns Romania, and for that matter, Italy?

Ithekro

Unknown.  If Borys decides to come back, what will happen then?  He could take a new land, or an old land he's been playing with (Spain?).

Lots of questions.

1 thing is for sure. if Phoenix plays China/Middle Kingdom here we'll have to learn to say " Yes ma'm", as she hinted at a sleightly different history.

Phoenix

What is the reason for splitting China ? Is my land too big ?
I like being big. I'm a generously endowed female myself, so I'm quite comfortable with a seizable girth. ;D

The Rock Doctor

Perhaps some who are less generously endowed...demographically speaking...are jealous/alarmed?

I personally don't see a need to split China in two; if population is a concern, balance it out with a strong Mughal/Indian presence with its own fairly large population.

Desertfox

I dont have a problem with China staying the same size. But we could add a Mongol Empire to blanace it out, plus it gives Phoenix a reason to have the Great Wall of China.

I would like to give Italy (without Sicily) and Switzerland to the Austrains, they in turn could be balanced with a Carthage, which would have Sicily.

Romania should remain independant for the time being.

BattleofthePyramids

Not to be greedy, but if we are building oil-powered warships Romanian oil fields would really come in handy ;D

Also, it would be good for at least the European powers to have clearly defined and easily defensible borders built around rivers, mountain ranges, etc; (not that I don't trust my neighbors, but... well, actually, I don't trust my neighbors and I want good places to put forts :)

swamphen

There's actually oil in Habsburgia - Borys was developing it some in Nv2.0.
